"Expert Water Systems truly is Utah’s BEST company in water softener in KNOWLEDGE, VALUE, SERVICE, PRODUCTS and WARRANTY! We have previously owned two different Superior water softeners and our most recent system broke and I was shocked at how expensive a new water softener would be. I did extensive research and reading of reviews (hours and hours) on several different kinds of water softeners (sold at Amazon, Sams, Costco, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Superior Water, Kinetico, and Culligan) and watched literally every You Tube video on “best water softeners”. I then got an installation bid from three local plumbers and found it would cost an expensive $800 just to install a softener that I purchased at Amazon, Sams, Home Depot, Lowe’s, or etc. with only a 1 year limited product warranty or one the plumber could pick up similarly in price and warranty at a business where only plumbers can purchase softeners. During one of the plumber’s bid, he discovered my main water pressure valve was broke and which was reading 95-110 PSI which is too high and most likely was the cause that broke our old water softener. The plumber bid $500 to fix my pressure valve. After these bids, I realized I wanted more than a limited one year product warranty on a new water softener and so I decided to get a bid from an company that specializes in water softeners, so I had Superior Water come to my home to give me a bid. Superior Water’s bid was a choice of two water softeners for the outrageous purchase and install price of $2,395 & $3,995 and also a RO water purifier for $1,295. I felt Superiors prices were Outrageously Expensive so I kept searching. FINALLY, I found FANTASTIC REVIEWS on a newer company called EXPERT WATER SYSTEMS, so I called and had the owner, Nick, and he came out to give me a bid and I was very impressed with his knowledge. Nick was a previous employee at Superior Water and has broke away and started up his own company. Nick builds his own systems and does NOT use parts from China. After my discussion with Nick, I was confident I had found who I wanted to do business with. I purchased a water softener for $1,850 INSTALLED WITH A 15 YEAR WARRANTY (similar to Superior’s $2,395 system with a only a limited 3 year labor 10 year parts warranty) and I paid Nick only $185 to fix and replace our main water pressure valve (same service that the plumber bid $500 to fix). My research paid off! I found Expert Water Systems was the MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE, offered the MOST CHOICES (36 different water softener systems), had the BEST KNOWLEDGE, BEST VALUE, BEST PRODUCTS, BEST WARRANTY and BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE! Hopefully the extensive time I spent on researching water softeners, reading reviews and getting bids, will help someone else in their decision. Go with Expert Water Systems, YOU WILL SAVE MONEY and have a BETTER WARRANTY! With the money I ended up saving, I inquired with Nick about RO water purification systems and I ended up buying a purification system too from Nick for $799 installed (similar to Superior’s system for $1,395) and now we have PURE drinking water in a separate smaller designer faucet at our kitchen sink and also in the water line going to our refrigerator (pure cold drinking water and pure ice)! Additionally, upon installing our new Softener and RO purifier, Nick and his son, found two small leaks not related to their install and they fixed them without an additional charge, now that is what I call EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE!"

"Wes was very knowledgeable and was able to diagnose the problem with my water heater. We went through my options and Wes educated me along the way to help me make the decision on what I should do. He even showed me what was wrong so I knew I could trust him. Iâ ve already scheduled Plumbing and Company to come back and install a new vanity sink in my bathroom. Glad to have found a plumber I can trust."

"The whole process was amazing! Jeff was very professional and educated me very well on my area and water and what system I needed for my situation and then just a couple of days later they came over and installed it quickly and I was good to go. Great company, great people, great price, and I would recommend them to anyone needing a water softener or reverse osmosis water filtration system."

"I am not one to leave positive reviews. I expect to receive the best product and best service, as a given, when I make any purchase. My recent water softener system purchase and experience with Patrick, cannot go without me sharing my comments. I am skeptical by nature, and very distrusting of businesses that sell home products / appliances etc. When I decided, after several years of not having Soft Water, to look into the latest technology on the market – I did some real homework. Due to the very positive reviews of Crusader Water of Utah, and the quality of their systems, I reached out to them, and was put into contact with Patrick. Patrick was very professional, very knowledgeable and very matter of fact. To my surprise, he was not the “car salesman” of water softeners that I was expecting. He was not pushy whatsoever. Patrick offered to make a home visit and evaluate the overall water condition of my house. Ok, and here it begins! I instantly felt the suspicions of the “what will it take to put you into this water softener today…” tactics now in play……but I was also very interested in knowing what the condition of my water actually was, and what options were available. It was an absolutely no cost, no strings attached visit – what did I have to lose? - so I accepted. When Patrick arrived, he very thoroughly explained what he was going to test and test for, how he was going to conduct those tests, what the results of the tests were going to show, and what those results meant. He explained all of this prior to even performing the tests. That brought down my “shields” a little bit! He then went on to describe the tests, and the testing equipment he would be using. It was all very open. No magic or sleight of hand – just real scientific testing. As he prepared to perform the tests, he again, detailed what the procedures were testing for and again, what the results would mean. So much information the first time, it was nice to have a refresher explanation. Patrick then asked me to participate in conducting the tests. Hands on huh?...... shields are dropping even more! The tests….and the test results were extremely eye opening! Patrick then explained what everything meant, and how it affected my daily life and activities (e.g. showers, personal cleanliness, washing clothes, washing dishes etc.). He showed me what Crusader Water of Utah has to offer, what each option consisted of, what the services and warrantees for each option were and of course, the costs associated. They were all very good options, with high quality equipment. He did not try to push the most expensive system on me…. in fact, based off the conversations we had had, he was recommending a middle of the road option. (I went for the Best Option though!!). We scheduled an Install Date, and much to my surprise, Patrick himself showed up to do the installation. (BTW – he was there at the exact time that we had scheduled!). Patrick spent a good part of the afternoon (much longer than I think he or his company probably anticipated it would take) installing the system – but, the reason it took longer, was because Patrick pointed out some deficiencies in my old home’s tubing and drain system, and corrected and improved them for me…..for no additional costs. What???!!! who does that anymore???!!! I have now had my new water softener system in and operating for over a month. It is absolutely AMAZING….and the changes Patrick said I would notice…. I Definitely Notice….and I LOVE IT!!! Patrick also made a second home visit, and of course, at no additional cost – to see if I was satisfied, but more so to again perform the same tests on the condition my home’s water now. The changes were absolute PROOF POSITIVE. This is not a gimmick, this was not “car salesmanship,” this is an amazing system and has already made a huge improvement in my day-to-day life! I want to thank Crusader Water of Utah, but mostly, I’d like to sincerely thank Patrick – for his absolute honesty, integrity and quality product and customer service. It is obvious that they believe in (and stand behind) their water softener products and take great pride in their outstanding customer service. Thank you for changing my life……and for changing my belief that there are no companies out there anymore that offer a great product with phenomenal customer service, and who care about their customers. You have proven me wrong (and I am thankful for that!!) Patrick, feel free to share my contact information with any customer that is not sure about all this. I would love the opportunity to share my experience with them personally and tell them how my quality of live and daily living is so much better now!!"

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

To get utilities set up on a property, you first have to contact the local department of planning to determine whether your property is able to connect to public utilities. From there, you can work with a structural engineer and/or a building contractor to design the layout of utility lines on the property. The pros will need this information as they begin securing building permits before they can start adding lines.

If your property isn’t able to connect to public utilities, you’ll need to consider working with pros to develop a comfortable off-grid home that will meet your needs.

No. You should never directly drain a water softener into a sewer cleanout. This practice is illegal in many areas because it could allow raw sewage to get into your drinking water and make you seriously ill. Many places have codes requiring a specific seal, pipe, and a large air gap between a water softener and a sewage cleanout. Check out Florida's Plumbing Building Code as an example of what these restrictions might look like.

There are several things that can shorten the life of a water softener. Homes with very hard water may have to replace the unit sooner because the water softener works harder to filter out the hard minerals. High water usage and infrequent maintenance can also put more strain on a water softener.

Whether you need a permit or license for a water softener installation depends on your location, as requirements vary significantly. Some municipalities require the installer to hold a plumbing license, some mandate a permit and an inspection, and others require both. In some areas, no special permit or license is needed at all.

To determine the rules in your area, you can contact your local building department or consult a local water softener installer or plumber. Often, only certified professionals are authorized to pull the necessary permits, and they will typically handle the entire permitting process for you. Regardless of local laws, it is always recommended to hire a licensed professional to ensure the system is sized and installed correctly. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to check an installer’s license status.

Yes, a water softener can remove scale deposits. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, after you add a water softener to your home, “gradually the softer water will dissolve limescale scale deposits and remove the problem entirely.” Installing a water softener—or water descaler—will also help prevent new scale deposits from forming.
