Customers say: Quality work

"I have a rock retaining wall that was crumbling and was frankly an eye sore. Mark showed up on time to give us a quote. He took his time to evaluate the job and communicate with us what he would do to bring it back to its original condition. He did a fantastic job! The wall looks like new! He did everything he said he was going to do and did it quickly! I would definitely recommend Mark to anyone!"

"Recently when I had a plumbing job done at my house, the plumber had to open a hole in the wall behind the work. I have an older home with lathe and plaster walls. Moises was recommended as someone with the expertise for that repair. Moises was very courteous and was able to answer all my questions. The work was done quickly and efficiently; when it was completed, no one would even guess that there had been a hole there. In summary, Moises did an excellent job; I am very pleased with his work and would recommend him to others who need this type of repair."

Customers say: True professional

"He was Great. He replied instantly as soon as I put in the request on HomeAdvisor he was willing to do it the same day or the next day where the other people who I requested a quote for took all day and wouldn't be able to do the job till a month later. He was also very fair priced and polite and I would recommend him to everyone who needs to have wall repair done."

"Joe fixed our bathroom leak by replacing the faulty hardware with the proper hardware and patched the wall back up and repainted the wall (with the perfect color match) where he had to cut out to diagnose. You can’t even tell there was a hole there. Joe took the time to explain everything to me of what our issue was and how he fixed it. He was on time, explained how long the job will take, and very thorough. Very professional work. My husband and I will definitely use Cransten again for our house projects in the future. Before and after photos from the leak damage and repair included with this review."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

DIY is possible for small projects. Professional installation ensures structural integrity and durability for larger walls.

With foundation walls, the slab on grade and force at the top of the wall is resisted by flooring. With retaining walls, the force at the top of the wall is not resisted.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.

Through proper drainage solutions and compacting the foundation soil.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.
