Customers say: Quality work

"Mark was the first bid I had to repair my block fence damaged by my pine tree blown over by high winds. After his bid I knew he was the right person for the job and I didnâ t need to entertain any more bids. Within a few days he was out here and completed the job and did outstanding. He left the area clean and I highly recommend him for any fence job. I know I would hire him again."

"We had plumbing work done that required cutting into our ceiling drywall in a hallway, bathroom and a bedroom--ten cut outs from 2 x 2 foot square to 5 x 12 inch square in size. Our home is 20 months old with textured drywall ceilings and walls. Tony's team came in and within three days replaced drywall, textured it and painted all the ceilings in the rooms. You cannot tell where any of the work was done; the texturing and painting completely matched the original ceilings. Tony and team were professional, punctual and true craftsmen. I would not hesitate to hire them again."

"I can t say enough good things about this company! Moises was prompt in responding to my Home Advisor request, providing a bid, and doing the project. He was always here exactly on time and was careful about screening off the work area to contain construction debris. He cleaned up after each work day which helped us be able to use our kitchen area in the evening. His drywall and wood floor repair work is impressive. You cannot even tell where we took out the wall in the kitchen and swamp cooler grate in our ceiling. I would highly recommend Moises and plan to use him again for future projects."

Customers say: True professional

"He was Great. He replied instantly as soon as I put in the request on HomeAdvisor he was willing to do it the same day or the next day where the other people who I requested a quote for took all day and wouldn't be able to do the job till a month later. He was also very fair priced and polite and I would recommend him to everyone who needs to have wall repair done."

"Joe fixed our bathroom leak by replacing the faulty hardware with the proper hardware and patched the wall back up and repainted the wall (with the perfect color match) where he had to cut out to diagnose. You can’t even tell there was a hole there. Joe took the time to explain everything to me of what our issue was and how he fixed it. He was on time, explained how long the job will take, and very thorough. Very professional work. My husband and I will definitely use Cransten again for our house projects in the future. Before and after photos from the leak damage and repair included with this review."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.

Costs range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

Even if you think you know how to build a retaining wall theoretically, doing the actual work is a completely different story. There are lots of nuances in building retaining walls, and the slightest oversight can compromise their integrity. Therefore, we recommend you hire a pro to build, repair, or replace retaining walls.

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.

Failure to compact the soil during construction is the most common cause of leaning retaining walls. In addition, poor drainage can lead to excessive water pressure behind a retaining wall, pushing against it until it begins to move forward away from the soil it is holding back.
