"West Shore Home did an amazing job remodeling our two bathrooms. They replaced our existing tub and shower combinations with walk-in showers. Replaced our existing vanities, floors, toilets, and baseboards with great modern updates. We took our time selecting the right company to do our remodel. After reviewing and evaluating four companies, we selected West Shore Home. The quality of their materials, the updated designs and installation all done by their professional, trained, and experienced employees (no subcontractors) were the major reasons we selected West Shore Home. Their sales/design representative, Evan, listened to our needs and concerns before the design process started. He suggested helpful design alternatives and provided examples for our completed remodel. He explained before we signed the contract, the agreed cost in our contract is the last price we pay at the end of the work unless we change the scope of the work. We found Evan to be honest and professional. The installers, Kimball, Riley, Craig, Grayson, and Hunter were on time for the removal and worked hard until the installation was professionally complete. West Shore completed the remodel in two days! Kimball, the lead installer, was great. He explained the removal and installation process before starting the work and provided updated progress information during the process. They were very considerate of our living conditions and protected our home from any damage. They were knowledgeable, professional, friendly, and dedicated to getting the work done right. It was our experience that selecting Wests Shore Home was the right decision for our remodel. They worked hard to make the experience as enjoyable as possible. "Just finished the second meeting with Tim Wagaman about the design and materials for our kitchen remodel. He is very professional and very knowledgeable in helping us decide all the details needed to have the best remodel possible. We are excited to continue the process and we're looking forward to the end result. Unlike other companies, Tim was very responsive in making and keeping the appointments and giving us quotes and I expect the same to continue throughout the project."

"Hired these guys after getting several other bids and opinions. Very impressed with the great communication. These guys put the finishing touch on our main floor remodel, fireplace mantel, staircase railing, dining table and 10 chairs , 4 barstools. As well as repairs and finish on a very old and now more beautiful rocking chair. We are so happy with the entire job and was glad for their input and help with design. Thanks DiMark"

"I've worked on many projects with this company from commercial to residential. You share your ideas with the drafts person and they create a rough draft in a short amount of time. Once you move on to the revision process you get to revise your designs three times included in the price! After you approve your design they produce a full construction set which is what you need to go to permitting. They stand by their drafting and offer unlimited redline revisions. This is a wonderful and much needed service for design professionals and contractors for fast & reliable plans."

Residential Design questions, answered by experts

Mid-century modern design focused primarily on two things: simple, functional furniture, often with geometric shapes, and specific color palettes that included earth tones and what we’d today call retro colors. Furniture often blended different materials, like teak or oak wood, with vinyl, metal, and glass. Common mid-century modern paint colors included browns, reds, burnt oranges, yellows, aqua greens, and whites.

A certified kitchen designer (or CKD) is a certification given by the National Kitchen and Bath Association. These designers have completed the necessary hours of training and education to specialize in kitchens, and therefore understand the wide variety of project needs (like plumbing, electrical, appliances, and more). Most pros will make their certifications known on their website, but you can also ask during your search for a local kitchen designer.

It's possible to turn your carport into a living space, but there are additional factors to address over turning it into a garage. HVAC, plumbing, and electricity won't be optional, and you'll need finished flooring, drywall, trim work, and legal ceiling height, for starters. Also, keep in mind that living space conversions may require upgrading the foundation underneath, and the permits might be more expensive as well.

Yes, most designers tailor plans to fit your budget. Discuss financial constraints during initial consultations.

Selecting the right general contractor to tackle a job like raising a sunken living room can feel like an overwhelming prospect. Follow these tips to find, vet, and hire the best local contractor for your project:

  • Get recommendations from neighbors and friends who might be able to suggest contractors they’ve used.

  • Request written quotes to help set your budget and expectations.

  • Verify your contractor’s credentials to ensure a professional and legal finished product.

  • Read the contractor’s proposed contract to make sure you agree to all terms, including the project timeline, cost, and materials.

  • Keep copies of all relevant documentation.
