"Finding your soul mate, choosing your child's name, and finding a reliable Contractor are three of the most important decisions of your life. You don't have to take my advice on the first two, but do heed me when it comes to who you let in your home. Compass Bath and Remodel is the best decision you could make in your life. Russ built from scratch a modern, pristine, luxury resort get-away in what used to be our basement. You can't believe a bathroom could be so beautiful! His plan, from the first pencil stroke of design, to the last dab of caulk beneath the toilet, exceeded what I imagined for a 3/4 bathroom. Over the last couple of years, I've had multiple companies in Northern Utah give me ideas, and estimates, that I thought were outrageous in price and lacking in detail. Russ will make you feel at ease the moment he enters. His plan was not just a rectangle on graph paper, but a calendar and timeline for how long the job will take. Unlike the horror stories you see on HGTV or have heard from your DIY friends, if Russ says 3 weeks, the job will be three weeks. Not framing on Monday and "See ya in 3 weeks." All the men who work with him do their job and care about their reputation and your home. Russ keeps you updated on what is going to happen each day and makes sure that it does occur. A home remodel is going to cost you money. Hire Russ and Compass Bath and Remodel and save your peace of mind."

Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel questions, answered by experts

While any bathroom remodel has a positive return on investment, an en suite bathroom can significantly increase a home’s resale value. It makes a property more enticing to buyers with families, particularly those with young children. However, keep in mind that at least one of the bathrooms should have a tub.

A half bath is a selling point, adding about $8,000 to $10,000 to the overall value of your home. Removing it can decrease your home’s value—particularly if you have too few bathrooms for the number of bedrooms. That said, it may not make much difference if the number of bathrooms isn’t a problem. You could add value by utilizing that space differently, like a laundry room or workspace.

Different bathtub materials have various advantages and disadvantages. Cast iron and copper are considered the most durable materials because they are dense and resistant to damage from scratches or dents. However, cast-iron tubs are heavy, expensive, and may not be suitable for upper floors. Copper offers unique benefits but requires regular chemical treatment to prevent a patina from forming, making cast iron a less maintenance-intensive option. Porcelain is a good second choice for durability. For those on a budget, acrylic is a popular option, though it is less durable.

Kitchens and bathrooms are typically the most expensive rooms to renovate. The high cost is due to several factors, including expensive appliances like ranges, hoods, and refrigerators, as well as costly fixtures. The 'bones' of the room, such as electrical and plumbing, are also expensive to move or replace. Because of the vast amount of prep work, finishing, and specialized labor involved in a relatively small footprint, these projects can cost double or more than a living space remodel. Even when trying to renovate on a budget, kitchens and bathrooms will likely carry a hefty price tag.

While most modern sinks, toilets, and showers last up to 20 years or more with no issues, experts suggest a bathroom remodel should take place at least once a decade. Otherwise, your bathroom might start to look dated. However, the frequency depends on a few different factors, including the quality of the original materials, how well the space has been maintained, and your personal preferences. Signs it’s time for a refresh include outdated fixtures, worn surfaces, poor functionality, or simply wanting to update the look.
