Customers say: True professional

"We have used Alfonso and his crew to do several jobs for us and have never been disappointed. Their skills and understanding of the proper trimming, pruning, and care for trees are excellent. They recently removed a 50+foot old maple tree, and ground the stump down well below ground level. They also pruned a large apple tree and thinned and trimmed two huge spruce trees. Those look better than they have for years. They are meticulous about cleaning up after their work. For their very hard work, we felt their price was very fair. We highly recommend Brothers Tree Service."

"He and his crew were very professional. They had to climb a 35 foot tree in a very compromising place in my yard. The pine tree dropped a ton of needles and they cleaned it all up. I was so happy with DO IT RIGHT. I would definitely hire them again and refer them to neighbors and friends.."

"This company is truly run by knowledgeable professionals. We met with Gary twice before the actual pruning of our 50+ year old never trimmed amazing Ginko tree. He walked us through what needed to be done so as not to traumatize the tree. The crew he send to do the pruning was also very professional, Abby is an amazing tree trimmer, it is awe inspiring to watch her work. They are very safety concious. They cleaned up the yard of any debris. I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing professional tree pruning."

"Apo and his team were great to work with. The price was lower than other companies I've used in the past and I liked the results better! They did a fabulous job cutting my big trees way back -- something they had needed for a long time. They did it so quickly, and cleaned up after themselves well. They also cleaned up other trimmings/debris that I had around the yard too. I will be using these guys again!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Pruning is an effective way to prevent a diseased branch from infecting the rest of the tree. If the infection isn’t caught early enough and the pathogen has spread to the trunk or the majority of the branches though, it is too late to prune off the affected areas and you’ll likely need to remove the tree.

Carefully pruning small roots no thicker than three inches in diameter won’t harm the tree. However, cutting larger roots may impact the tree's stability and nutrient absorption. It's advisable to consult an arborist or tree care professional to evaluate the root's size, the tree's health, and the potential impact of cutting. Proper tree pruning techniques and timing can minimize damage, but larger root removal may necessitate expert guidance to avoid compromising the tree's overall health and stability.

Since overwatering can harm mature trees just as much as a lack of water, it’s important to know the signs of an overwatered tree. If your tree’s leaves are yellowing, wilting, or dropping leaves, it’s likely that you’re overwatering. Other common signs include rotting, fungi, soggy soil, soft or peeling bark, falling leaves, and brittle roots.

If you realize that you’ve been overwatering your mature tree, stop watering and give the soil time to dry out. Then moving forward, increase time between watering sessions.

On grafted trees, tree suckers will grow from the root stock, not the branches grafted onto it. Therefore, the leaves and characteristics of the suckers aren’t the same as the tree because they are different varieties. Root stock has more hardiness, strength, or drought tolerance than its grafted limbs, so if the suckers are from fruit or flowers, it might be different than the main part of your tree.

You’ll want to have your palm trees trimmed during the spring, ideally in May, before hurricane season sets in, which generally takes place during the late summer. Palm trees grow fastest over the summer months. You’ll also want to trim your palm trees when you notice:

  • Brown fronds

  • Dry leaves

  • Flower pods

  • Fruit

  • Fronds overgrown in power lines

  • Frond encroaching upon your neighbor’s home or yard

  • Visible damage from a storm
