Our focus at Ash & Oak Tree Care is to start your trees off for long-term success. We provide consultations for landscape design and development planning, the creation of tree and landscape maintenance plans, and offer structural pruning services for young and adolescent trees. By intentionally selecting/placing a tree, prescribing a foundational soil volume, properly setting and pruning the roots while planting, and pruning for site-specific branching structure in the first 15 years will set your tree up as an infrastructure asset.

"Mark really saved us. We had a very large tree that was splitting and needed to come down before it fell down. He was able to start the work promptly and he had a big crane come to lift the majority of the tree (in sections) over the house. All was done safely. He was busy and the weather did not cooperate well; so, I did have the feelings that he promised a bit more than he could do. He tries very hard to "get to yes" and that does generate a little difference between what he says he can do and what he can do. However, this difference is small. The big picture is that he was able to jump right in (couple of days, prior to storm) and I think he saved us a disaster. The final bill was significantly higher than the bid, but we did have him do somewhat more than was defined in the bid. Our next door neighbor also had him do work, and she was happy with the result. Working with Mark was good. I would use him again. We had urgency in our project so we didn't have time for a lot of comparative bidding. We had one other company come, but they never gave us a final bid - due presumably to the difficulty of getting our very large tree out of our yard, on a hill. (Mark used a huge crane to do the work, "110 ton" type.) We also had power lines near that tree; so, another issue requiring caution. A third company came (a large and well-known company) but they did not arrive to even give us a bid until we had agreed to have Mark do the work (storm coming, tree needed to come down). So, I don't have any great information on the comparative bid situation. Anyway, I would recommend Mark and Acorn Arborists. I would give 5 stars (and cheers) except that there was a little tendency to lead us to expect somewhat more than he could deliver (in terms of time and cost). But again, the weather was not cooperative."

"They came in and rescued me from a bad situation caused by a previous tree service. They took down two of the biggest trees in the community for me and were professional and courteous. I would hire them again for sure."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Local tree removal prices range from $200 to $2,000 overall, but vary depending on:

  • Local cost of labor and supplies

  • Accessibility of the tree

  • Local laws regarding who is allowed to remove the tree

  • The species of the tree (softer woods are often easier to remove)

  • Local seasonal discounts for the off-season

Rock salt or Epsom salt can damage and kill tree roots over several weeks and can even assist in removing the tree's stump. However, you need to drill holes or cut into the stump and surface tree roots to inject them properly with the salt. Repeat the process every two weeks until the roots visibly rot away.

Grinding down a tree helps reduce the risk of foundation damage and pests and even helps your home’s curb appeal. Stumps can also be a safety hazard. If grass grows above the stump and someone else mows your yard, they may be in for a rude awakening when they accidentally hit it.

The Christmas tree type that smells the best to you will ultimately depend on personal preference. But if that classic Christmas tree smell is important to you, choosing a type of tree known for its scent is a safe bet. Try a balsam fir for a spicy, comforting scent or a Douglas fir for a sweeter smell. You may also like Fraser firs, Scotch pines, and blue spruces.

Pruning trees is important for several reasons. It improves tree health and strength by removing dead, diseased, or unwanted branches, which in turn encourages new growth and can help treat disease. For fruit trees, proper pruning can lead to a larger and better-quality harvest. Pruning also enhances safety by removing weak limbs that could break and fall, potentially causing injury or property damage, especially during storms. Beyond these functional benefits, pruning can also improve a tree's appearance. To ensure pruning is done correctly for the tree's long-term health, consider hiring a professional.
