"We had an overgrown tree that was damaging our fence, along with several other trees that needed removal. I received the quote on Tuesday and they came on Wednesday and had the entire job completed before noon, including a 30 foot tree, large pine tree, I don't even know how many quakies, grinding down the stumps AND hauling everything off. "Carey and his team did an incredible job. We had a significant project on our hands - needing to install drip watering zones and lawn sprinkler zones on a 1/4 acre. We needed to remove grass and level the yard, move a shed, install bark, sprinklers, and sod. Carey's team got it done in a week! They kept the jobsite clean, and even the city drove by and gave their thumbs up. The landscaping looks beautiful and the sprinklers are working well. Carey even had the team come back the next season to help with some pressure regulators. Carey has good experience and knows how to get things done efficiently. I think Carey has a wide breadth and depth of expertise and would be good to work with on large jobs like ours and I am sure smaller jobs too."

Any tree that needs to be pruned should be pruned to remove dead branches at least once a year. You may need to prune far more often if you’re trying to maintain a certain shape or to save a tree that suddenly becomes infected.

Tree trimming can count as landscaping, depending on how a landscaping business describes its services. Professional tree trimmers are more specialized than landscapers and offer trimming services separately from general landscaping.

When general landscaping companies offer tree trimming, look up the details. They usually mean shaping or seasonal trimming of ornamental trees, which is different from trimming larger trees for health or safety reasons. When possible, look for a licensed expert that specializes in trees and tree health.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.

Generally, you’ll want to prune back the trunk by 1 to 2 feet each year to promote bushy growth. Doing so concentrates vegetative buds closer to the bottom of the tree, where you can easily harvest fruit. For side shoots that are a year old, leave at least six leaves. 

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.

A few signs a tree may be dead is if the leaves are dead and there are no signs of new blooms. You can also perform a scratch test on some of the branches to check the condition of the cambium layer beneath the bark.

If it is green, it is still alive, but if several are dry, brittle, and brown, the tree may be dying or dead. Always consult an arborist before assuming your tree is dead because you may be able to save it.
