"This shower will be a game changer for accessibility! The whole process was simple. Marlon did a great job helping us design the project, Kimball and Carrson were A+ installers, and Kaitlynn was awesome at keeping us updated on the timeline for everything. Highly recommend!"

"I've worked on many projects with this company from commercial to residential. You share your ideas with the drafts person and they create a rough draft in a short amount of time. Once you move on to the revision process you get to revise your designs three times included in the price! After you approve your design they produce a full construction set which is what you need to go to permitting. They stand by their drafting and offer unlimited redline revisions. This is a wonderful and much needed service for design professionals and contractors for fast & reliable plans."

"Ecolecuá offers a unique collaborative approach with her clients. On our project, she struck the perfect balance; she listened to our ideas and feedback but very much maintained her role as the creative expert, making us feel comfortable the entire time. I would absolutely recommend Ecolecuá with no hesitation. With all she has done, she is going to find the right approach for just about any client. Aileen Dominguez Dentist, Boston, Massachusetts"

Small jobs welcome

"Tanya was amazing to work with. We had many changes and modifications we wanted as we were designing our custom home. She was completely amazing and timely in completing the requests. We were always the ones that she was waiting on not the other way around. The finished home was beautiful and unique and she added a great artistic flair and really brought our ideas to life. Authentic Homes is the best!"

Residential Design questions, answered by experts

A Jack and Jill bathroom is not considered an en suite bathroom. An en suite bathroom is a private bathroom connected to one room, like a primary bedroom. A Jack and Jill bathroom connects two rooms and has two entrances, so it’s not entirely private.

Some architects include interior design in their portfolio of offerings, while some architectural firms employ interior designers to handle that aspect of home building projects or refer clients to interior designers they’ve worked with in the past. Ask a local architect whether they offer interior design services as well.

Before hiring an interior designer, ask a few questions to better understand how they work, what’s expected of you, and what they promise to deliver.

  • How long will the project take to complete?

  • What type of services do you offer?

  • Can you provide a project estimate?

  • Do you work with subcontractors?

  • Are you licensed or certified in this state?

  • Do you have a portfolio of previous work I can review?

  • May I contact your customer references?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • How do you handle payment?

Building a home office addition can take three to four months to complete, while renovating an existing room into a home office may take two to six weeks, depending on the extent of the renovations. Your project’s timeline will depend on permit approvals, material availability, site prep, construction delays, and other factors. Your general contractor can keep you up-to-date on estimated completion times.

While the terms 'interior designer' and 'interior decorator' are often used interchangeably, they represent distinct professions with some overlapping work. The primary difference lies in the scope of their projects.

An interior decorator focuses on the aesthetics of a space, making less permanent decisions about decor. Their work involves selecting colors, fabrics, furniture, wall art, paint, and other finishes to 'dress' a room and enhance its style.

An interior designer has a broader scope that includes a decorator's aesthetic focus but also extends to the structural and functional aspects of a space. Designers are qualified to plan layouts, make structural changes, and manage overall functionality. They handle permanent decisions regarding fixtures like cabinets and bathtubs, establish floor plans, and may hire contractors.

Due to the technical skills required, interior designers typically have formal education, certification, and may hold a license, which can result in higher fees. As a general rule, it is best to hire an interior designer for major remodeling projects and an interior decorator for projects focused on establishing or refreshing a home's interior style.
