"Prompt, professional and very courteous, as well as very honest that my twelve year old Maytag had reached the point of no return.  They could of repaired the motor, and then been back in six months to do the transmission, then the pump, etc.  Instead, after careful inspection, he was honest about the useful life, and if repaired, something else would break.

"As always, Kolorkist went above and beyond our expectations! We have had Kolorkist clean our carpets for the last 5 years and Shawn and his team were the first and last company we contacted to seal the flooring in our new home. We highly recommend Kolorkist!!!!!"

"Lee and Carlos responded the day after I called them, and did an excellent drywall repair job in my garage; along with replacing the cabinet kickboard and baseboards in my bathroom. They were polite & professional as they went about their work. Highly recommend them!"

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space

Whether talking about a whole-house central vacuum or a portable vacuum cleaner, the expected cost of major repair work should always be balanced against its replacement cost. However, excluding high-cost motor replacements or major electrical trouble, repairs on a central vacuum system are typically far less than the cost of purchasing and installing a new one.

Common repairs for central vacuum cleaners include motor repair, electrical repair, and blocked filters. Central vacuum motor issues typically come with a burning smell and loss of suction. With these issues, you might need simple lubrication to keep it running smoothly, or for more extreme problems, you could need a motor replacement.

Electrical problems or losing suction strength, might be reasons to swap out electrical components for new ones. However, a local central vacuum repair professional can tell you the best plan of action for your system.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

A central vacuum system can be a worthwhile investment depending on your needs and budget. While the upfront cost is higher than a traditional vacuum cleaner, it offers significant long-term benefits. These systems can save you time and make cleaning your home easier, as you only need to carry the hose and vacuum head, eliminating the need to lug a heavy unit up and down stairs. They also tend to operate more quietly and can improve indoor air quality. The convenience and performance over many years may make it a valuable addition to your home if you can budget for the initial installation.
