"Melvin is in very way a gentleman along with his 2 assistants...courteous...punctual...professional...meticulous.They came in at 8:00 and worked til 6:00...laid out all the structure for the fence...the next morning...were back at 8:00 and hit it hard again finishing my entire fence line at 2:00 P.M. I'm hiring them again for my deck restoration. (HIGHLY) recommend Melvin Barnet and his fencing company for your next project as well as every future project. There's a reason why this gentleman has a 5 star rating. He EARNS it on every project. Did I Mention that when they left...they left EVERYTHING cleaner than they found it?"

"Jason and Josh (the Brothers), did a great job. They had an opening and came right out and on time. They noticed the gate was about fail and went ahead and fixed it on the spot. They stained the deck and the fence. Small project but very professional and it looks great."

"Beautiful work and great service! Three sections of our fence blew down in high winds, posts snapped at the ground, it was a mess! One phone call to Enrique the owner of Olvmar and he was out estimating the amount of material and the time to replace. This team outlined the work needed to be done, suggested ways to improve the design against the strong winds, and provided a time frame of when they would start and when they would finish. The work was as promised, the fence looks great! And they hauled off the old fence and cleaned up the yard, great service! I?m looking for other projects I can have them do for us. Quality work, great price, quick turnaround. Olvmar construction is great!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.

By careful planning and reinforcement to maintain structural integrity.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

Not all porch columns are load-bearing, though they can be. Some porch columns are simply decorative. There are ways to identify a load-bearing column, like looking for visible seams and a foundation. Also, check to see if the column directly enters the ground. In some porch installations, a contractor will excavate a hole to install a column into the earth along with a buried cement base for stability.
