"Josh is a great handyman. Not only does he do quality work, but he is professional, meticulous and courteous. The doors look great and he was respectful and cleaned up after himself. I will be hiring him again in the furore for other upgrades to my property."

Small jobs welcome

"The only negative I could say is he didn't haul off some old timbers but we didn't discuss it so he probably didn't know if I wanted him to or not. Otherwise everything was great. Excellent service. Quick. I think the only time he stopped was for lunch unlike somewho take a break every couple of hours, he worked until the job was completed. Would totally hire again and/or recommend!"

"Wrightâ s glutters was an amazing company to work with. Not only was the quality of work outstanding, their price was fair. Their crew was on time completing the work quickly and efficiently. I built my house from the ground up with Wrights being 1 of the top contractors to work with, possibly the best. If you are needing glutters, the first call I would make is to Wrights."

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can synchronize Christmas lights with music to create a DIY light show. To do this, you will need several components. For hardware, you'll need standard holiday lights, decorations, lawn ornaments, tools, outdoor-rated extension cords, a computer, and a light show control system or digital controller. You will also need specialized software to program the show; popular options include Light-O-Rama (LOR), Vixen, xLights, and Animated Lights. Some, like Vixen and Animated Lights, are considered more beginner-friendly. The process involves using the software to program your lights, choosing an audio method such as speakers or an FM broadcast, and testing the entire system to make sure it's working correctly before the show.

Aside from a professional light installation company, there are a few other pros who may be able to help you hang Christmas lights. Along with specialty holiday decorators, a handyperson near you can also hang Christmas lights (and can fix that pesky drippy sink while they’re at it). Either way, not all of these pros will offer the service, so be sure to call ahead and get multiple quotes before you hire.

It’s unnecessary to tip holiday decorators, and most professionals won’t expect it, but it’s a nice gesture to show your appreciation for their work. If the expert goes above and beyond to keep your delicate decorations safe, or they’re hanging your exterior lights and putting out lawn decorations in freezing temperatures or inclement weather, a tip between 10% and 20% of your total will be appreciated. Large jobs that include interior and exterior work are also good opportunities to tip, especially if your expert is performing a rush job close to the holidays.

Professional holiday decorators are used to working with homeowners with varying needs, so the services can include nearly anything related to holiday decorations. Some services you might want to consider include the following:

  • Exterior light hanging

  • Other exterior decorations

  • Exterior tree decorating

  • Interior tree design and decorating

  • Removing holiday decorations at the end of the season

  • Packaging decorations after removal

  • Holiday decoration storage

The type of lighting you choose can have a big part in the aesthetic and function of your space. Ambient lighting refers to indirect or diffused lighting that evenly reaches most areas of the space. Task lighting illuminates specific areas, such as a workspace. Accent lighting draws attention to details in your home, and decorative lighting draws attention to itself.
