"recently called John Moore Services for what should have been a simple plumbing issue — a clogged bathroom sink connected to my air conditioner drain line. I reached out after seeing their TV commercial promoting clogged sink service for “about $69.” What I quickly discovered is that this advertised rate applies to an extremely narrow and unadvertised category of sinks that almost no real-world situation meets. My straightforward, less-than-20-minute fix was quoted at over $600 to snake. This is an outrageous markup for such a basic job. As a former small business owner, I find these tactics troubling. This is a textbook example of bait-and-switch advertising — grabbing attention with a low price, then upselling with inflated charges once the customer is committed. Practices like this harm consumers and tarnish the reputation of the many honest, hardworking service providers in our community. Shame on you, John Moore Services. My strong recommendation: Do Not Use."

There are many potential causes of low well water pressure. The most common include sediment buildup, leaking pipes, a failing well pump, or a cracked pressure tank. 

For the most part, choosing between 30/50 psi and 40/60 psi is based on your water-pressure preference. However, it can also depend a little bit on your house—if you have older plumbing, a lower water pressure can be easier on the pipes (and a bit more gentle on your well pump).

However, because the task is so labor-intensive and costly, most homeowners simply choose to abandon the old tank if possible and install a new system in the new location. A leaking well pipe is quite different from if the well itself is leaking. To seal a leaking well, pour a cement mixture or bentonite into the space between the well casing and the borehole wall. The heavier cement collects at the bottom to form a solid seal, pushing lighter materials like mud and fluids up toward the surface. Professional well installation companies have the equipment to do this properly. 

If you aren’t sure if you have a septic tank or a cesspit, you can check your property records or inspect your drainage system. A septic tank has an outlet pipe that allows liquid to drain into a soakaway or drain field, while a cesspit is a sealed tank that requires frequent emptying. If you notice a manhole cover and no nearby drainage field, it’s likely a cesspit. Signs like slow drainage or a frequent need for pumping can also provide clues. A professional inspection is the easiest way to confirm if your home runs on a septic tank or cesspit.
