"

My son's room was not quite dark enough for him to get a good night sleep.  Before the installation of the new window treatments, we had 2" faux wood blinds with a diamond cell light filtering arch at the top of the window that was purchased from a box store.

In mid-July, I received an advertisement email from Angie's list for $500 worth a window treatments for $200.  After looking at the reviews of Drapery King, which were all positive, I decided to pull the trigger and get the ball rolling.  My wife was a little suspect of the deal at first, but later warmed up to the idea.

Upon first meeting David & Tim, they provided us with a few options that would address our needs.  We went with the most cost effective option.  After the first night, my son said that his room was much darker than before and that helped him sleep better.  Mission accomplished!

From the presentation to the installation, they were very professional, courteous, punctual, and focused on customer service.  I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Drapery King for the reasons stated above!

"DFW Premium Shutters did a great job on my plantation shutters! They came out to measure my windows and give me an initial quote. I had another company give me a quote and their cost was almost twice what DFW Premium Shutters quoted me. In addition, the turnaround time on the shutters from DFW Premium Shutters was about half as long as the other company said it would take. The installation was quick and easy and the installers actually arrived early. The shutters are very high quality and exactly what I was expecting. I highly recommend them!!"

"Amanda from Homemade design provided me with a variety of suggestions for couches, end-tables, lamps, window coverings, rugs, paints, accessories to match my style and color preferences for my living room. Amanda has better than great ideas and worked to stay within my budget. I also hired Amanda to design my kitchen, dining room, game room, and master bedroom and bath. Building and furnishing a house is a daunting task, and Amanda was a great help in putting it all together. I couldn't have done it without her. Well done Amanda! Would I recommend Amanda? Yes Yes Yes!!"

Window Treatments questions, answered by experts

When your double-hung window upper sash keeps falling down, it means you could be letting out warm air in the winter or cool air from the AC in the summer. That means your HVAC system works harder to warm or cool the house, costing you extra on electric bills.

If the lower sash continues to fall down, it means when you’ve popped open the window for fresh air, it could slam shut. In addition to being inconvenient, this could be dangerous if you have small kids, children, or pets that like to hang out by the window.

The rough opening refers to the framed space in the wall where the window will be placed. That means the full size of the space will be filled with both glass and frame once the new window is installed. For a standard window, a rough opening adds 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch to both the length and width.

Most homeowners prefer to service their windows during the spring or fall when temperatures are the most bearable, and having large openings in your wall won’t drastically increase your heating and cooling bills. However, while these seasons are the most convenient, you’ll also tend to pay more for window repair due to the increased demand. If you want to reduce labor costs, consider making window repairs in the off-seasons. Avoid waiting until the heart of winter to do repairs, though, as you could run into leaks and heat loss issues.

The biggest disadvantages of low-E windows have to do with cost and, depending on your personal taste, appearance. Low-E windows cost more than traditional windows—typically between $300 and $1,000 per window, plus installation costs. Though they can save you money in the long run, low-E windows have a hefty upfront price tag. Additionally, low-E windows have a slightly different look than traditional windows. While some people don’t notice it, others say the low-E coating gives windows a hazy look.

To find and hire a reputable contractor for an egress window installation, you should first research local professionals and then vet your top candidates. Start by searching for local contractors who specialize in this type of work, read their customer reviews, and examine their website and portfolio. Once you have a shortlist, contact them to ask key questions: Are you licensed and insured? What is your specific experience installing egress windows? Can you provide references from previous customers? Do you perform the work yourself or use subcontractors? What is the estimated project timeline and your current schedule? How do you handle payment?
