"Emilio and his crew showed up and showed out! Very professional, same day quote, on time every time, professional, thorough explanation of the process and paint products used, quick clean up, amazing work, and great feedback. Exceeded our expectations! Would strongly recommend to family, friends, and neighbors. Services provided: power washing, painting, gutter cleaning, and replacement of some of the woodwork on the back patio. "From the first call I made… until the last stroke of the paintbrush, Jose and his team delivered EXCELLENCE! I was nervous about having to move everything and Jose quickly calmed my anxiety by saying “WE WILL MOVE EVERYTHING!!!!”They were attentive, KNOWLEDGEABLE, meticulous, and truly patient with every request. Their skill level is exceptional. They were thorough and fast, a few days later, they had completed each task by doing exactly what they promised, immaculate and to perfection with a 100% guarantee!!! They removed my belongings with care, covered them, primed, painted/stained and then placed all of our furniture back in place with great care when they were done. My walls, trim, ceilings, doors and flooring, (yes I got new carpet too) all look like we’ve moved into a brand new house. My home looks amazing and I have received so many compliments. Beautiful job! I will definitely be using them for ALL of my housing needs."

"The Custom Painting painters moved my furniture, covered it carefully, taped off the areas for trim and did a great job of coverage of my walls. I was very pleased with their careful treatment of my furniture and carpets. I’ve hired Custom Painting again recently to do more painting in another part of my home. Great company with great people!"

Small jobs welcome

"I hired them to do a patio deck, total rebuild. It required part of the old deck to be removed. I had a tree taken down that was in the middle of the old deck and our plan was just to go over it with the new deck. I was not on site but they realized that the tree stump and roots would not allow them to put their new deck boards down properly. They rented equipment and removed the tree stump and roots. I had a friend who has extensive experience in construction monitor the job and he felt like they had done an excellent job. They bid the job to low, I paid them extra for their expense and time. I would use them again and would recommended them to my friends."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Staining pressure-treated wood is a recommended practice. While inherently resilient, it's not impervious to moisture and UV exposure. Staining treated wood is feasible and recommended for enhanced protection and longevity. Applying stain and sealant safeguards against degradation, prolonging its life span. These measures shield the wood from environmental threats while augmenting its aesthetic appeal, ensuring your investment endures the test of time.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Whether you can paint over your existing paint depends on what’s on there. Most of the time, you’ll want to sand down or scrape off the paint that’s currently coating your surface. Epoxy paint, for example, won’t let new paint stick to the surface. Latex paint is more forgiving and will accept a new coat, but a primer is recommended if you’re switching colors.

A wood deck requires annual cleaning and regular inspections for loose or broken boards, nails, and screws. It should be refinished by applying a stain or sealer every two to three years to protect the wood from water damage, rot, mildew, and sun fading. The exact frequency can depend on the climate and the deck's exposure to sun and moisture. If your deck is painted, it will need repainting approximately every 10 years. Signs that your deck needs refinishing include faded, splintering, or warping boards.

You’ll want to avoid excessively hot or humid conditions, so it’s best to apply your stain in late spring to early fall. It's also important to watch the weather forecast and aim for days when there isn’t rain expected for at least three days. For new decks, allow the wood to season beforehand for at least four to eight weeks.
