"The team at Ortega’s Painting Services and More provided quality services beyond our expectations. They skillfully repaired sheetrock, painted the interior of our entire home, and provided tree service in under 2 weeks. In addition, they were thoughtful, kind, and overall great people. "My criteria for evaluating people who work on my property are punctuality, communication, attention to detail, precision, care around landscaping, and cleanup. E.A's people were excellent on all counts. They arrived on time each day and worked tirelessly. Transfers from one color to another were crisp, clean, and sharply defined. The workers tightly covered every window and door, and even much of my very large deck, to avoid overspray. Shrubs, trees, and flower beds were not broken, trampled, or damaged in any way , and the site was straightened and cleaned at the end of each day."

"Excellent. His team removed the old stain and applied new darker stain to kitchen cupboards. They bubbled the kitchen area, including the contents areas of cupboards and drawers. Very little mess. Very quick and professional work. Great value for the money paid."

"Excellent job.  They taped everything off, no spills.  They did not do the trim, only walls, and there was no bleedover onto any trim or any of my furniture or fixtures.  They even removed and reinstalled the tv mount so as not to get any paint on it and to ensure the wall was uniformly painted.  They fixed all dings in my wall to perfection, including some pre-existing sheet rock damage.
They truly went above and beyond.  The paint job looks great.  They also worked FAST and were done 2 hours before they said they would be.  Worked through lunch.

"John Kelly, showed up promptly at the appointed time and proceeded immediately to work. He helped move the potted plants and patio furniture. The house never looked better. I will hire him again when it comes time to pressure wash the house again next year."

"Great work at a great price, fast and proficient with good communication throughout the whole process guaranteeing reassurance and detailed description of the work to be done. Got quoted a great price when asked to look at my house and looked confident he could get it done so I made a decision and opted to hire him and his crew. Clean and careful around all furniture making sure it was covered and safe from any paint or staining. The finished work was something I never expect to see again, looking brand new with a wash and repaint he came and went above and beyond for this project!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Various kinds of substances and deck preservatives act as protective coatings for wood to prevent rot, which is caused by water getting into the wood and creating cracks and splits. Stains, paints, and sealants are the three best options to protect your wood, but there are also oils, varnishes, and waxes available. You’ll need to reapply sealant at least once per year, and you should inspect your wood deck regularly to look for signs of damage or general wear and tear.

Waterproof paint creates a barrier to hold back moisture, but it doesn’t eliminate the source of the water. If you hire a basement waterproofing contractor, many will tell you that waterproof paint is only a temporary solution. On average, you can expect it to last from six months to two years in a wet basement before deteriorating.

Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.

When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.

To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.
