"This company did an amazing job with a deck build for us! We showed them some ideas we had and they made some small but impactful design tweaks and came up with something even better than what we’d imagined! Really professional crew - showed up on time, cleaned up after themselves, and - most importantly - build a beautiful, high-quality deck! Would definitely recommend."

"They did an outstanding job!! I am thrilled with my new deck. Mine had rotted and had developed a pronounced slope, and needed to be replaced down to the joists. They rebuilt the entire deck, and it looks incredible! Brand new and beautiful. Very high quality workmanship on a rather complex project. The deck is three levels, with a small walking ramp, steps the length of the deck and a custom cutout for a water feature. They did outstanding work. The service is also outstanding. Very professional, reliable and friendly. I would absolutely hire them again."

"Custom Painting does quality work. They patched about 15 holes in our walls after a repiping. They also cleaned and painted the ceiling in our den. We were very pleased with their work. I would recommend them to everyone."

"Mr. Lopez was courteous on the phone and arrived at my home within 2 days for an estimate. He started work 4 days later. I explained that I wanted the mirrows taken down and I would buy new mirrors for him to put back up and he agreed. He told me the job would take 4 to 5 days. He and a helper removed the wallpaper well but were messy with their equipment in my master bedroom (screws, nails, etc. were laying on the floor instead of being put away in a box or something to hold them. He textured the walls the second day and the preceded to start painting the walls later that day. The master bathroom has wet marks under the paint on one strip where he started painting before the texture was dry. In some areas the wall is not even and you can tell where the wallpaper was taken off. They did do a good job on the wood work with the oil based paint. On Thursday I asked Mr. Lopez when he thought they would be finished and he told me Saturday or Sunday. That was fine with me so Thursday evening I bought one mirror to see if it would fit in the bathroom knowing that I had time on Friday to buy two more mirrors since they were not going to be finished until Saturday or Sunday. When I returned from work on Friday Mr. Lopez informed me that they would be finished in about 20 minutes. So I asked when they would be there on Saturday and he said "no we will not be here on Saturday we are completely finished". I said "what" you told me Saturday or Sunday and you still have mirrors and a mess to clean up. He acted put out and I told him I was leaving and going to get the other mirrors right then and he would put them up as we discussed before he left. I came back with the mirrors and he told me before I even brought it into the bathroom that it was too big. I said no it is not I measured it and it is fine. He then said ok and preceded to hang mirrors. One mirror was so high it was covering up the light fixture hole so he had to redo it. All in all it was very frustrating on a Friday evening to be dealing with such a matter. I had asked him to just come back on Saturday and do it and he said he couldn't do that. So I think he had taken another job and was rushing to finish my job. The next day I tried to take a shower and my drain quickly clogged up. After using a plunger etc. a lot of paint came out of the drain. Needless to say I was not happy. He had used my bathtub to clean his brushes. I then had to call a plumber to come unclog my drain. The painting it self was not that bad but because of the rest of the experience I would not use him again."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Oxygen bleach uses hydrogen peroxide as a base and won’t harm wood when using it as a cleaner. On the other hand, chlorine bleach breaks down wood at the cellular level and causes irreversible harm. Although you may not see immediate damage to wood after exposing it to chlorine bleach, its strength and integrity are now compromised.

Always wait until the morning dew has dried before you stain your deck. The stain needs a fully dry surface to sink into.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

Unless you’re using a 2-in-1 formula or painting over an existing coat of paint, it pays to apply a coat of primer ahead of your new paint. Decks see a lot of footfall and exposure to extreme and sudden temperature changes and moisture levels. The primer promotes better paint adhesion, moisture repellency, and a smoother finish, which means you’ll often need fewer coats of paint.

The plastic in composite decking boards protects them enough that you do not need to paint them to prevent warping. In fact, painting composite decking voids the warranty of some manufacturers. Painting can also increase maintenance on the deck, as you must paint regularly to keep it looking its best.
