"The work and customer service is the best I have experienced in 17 years of home ownership. Then today, New Years Eve, my second sewer line backed up and they couldn’t get to it and they referred me to another plumber who came and saved us from backed up lines over the holidays. They are really remarkable."

"I recently hired Leaky's to install a new hot water heater, but I wasn't expecting a full-blown cinematic experience. Mitchell showed up at my door in a full Superman costume—cape and all—and honestly, the performance didn't stop at the outfit. While installing a water heater is usually a standard job, Mitchell treated it like he was saving Metropolis. He handled the heavy lifting with ease, and the installation was flawless. But what really set him apart was how he went completely above and beyond the call of duty once the primary job was done. Without being asked, he noticed I was struggling with a few things around the property. He helped haul a massive amount of trash to the dumpster & then spent time organizing the garage, clearing out clutter that had been sitting there for months. It was like having a superhero-themed concierge service. If you want a plumber who provides professional service & Herculean strength Mitchell with Leaky's is your man. Highly recommended!"

"Very quick service came on New Year's eve at the appointed time, days earlier than 3 other plumbers were available, professional and quick and very reasonable. Will hire again in the future."

"I used Tin Lizzee to diagnosis my refrigerator. John S. was very knowledgeable and helpful in diagnosing the problem. Lucky for us it was a minor repair. This is a wonderful service that was quick and efficient and affordable. Unlike the other place that I called that wanted to charge me $89-129 for a diagnostic and could not come out until about 2 weeks later. I definitely will use Tin Lizzee again for future appliance issues. I will tell all my friends and family about this service also. Thank you John S and Tin Lizzee for such wonderful customer service."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

The toilet should rest 10, 12, or 14 inches from the back wall. As for other clearances, 15 inches is the minimum distance from the flange to any side wall or nearby fixture, including the shower, tub, and sink. Modern codes also require at least 24 inches of clear space in front of the toilet.

Installing a plumbing system is a project best left to professional plumbers. Plumbing systems involve tons of moving parts—water supply lines, pipes, drain lines, sewer connections, and connections to appliances like water heaters, washing machines, and dishwashers. Improper installation of your plumbing system can leave your house vulnerable to potential damages that could result in flooding or damage to your home’s foundation. While you can DIY your way through common plumbing problems like fixing clogged drains or leaky faucets, it’s highly recommended that you contact a plumbing professional for most of your plumbing-related tasks, especially installing the system.

Yes, you can fix pipe threads. In fact, the process is the same as cutting new ones. You’ll need to use a pipe threader tool with the proper size die head for the pipe. Turning the threader over the damaged threads will clean up any damaged or worn-out threads in the pipe. If the pipe threads are too damaged, this process may not work, and you’ll need to replace the pipe.

Although linear drains allow water to flow quickly and efficiently, they tend to clog more easily than traditional drains. Linear drains are flush with the shower floor, allowing soap scum and hair to potentially build up. They’re also longer than other drains, allowing for more space to let debris fall into the drainpipe.

It is generally safe to stay in a house that smells like sewage for a short time, but you should get the problem fixed as soon as possible. While the level of sewer gas is usually low enough to only cause minor symptoms, prolonged inhalation can lead to headaches, nausea, or respiratory irritation. High levels of gas exposure can be more dangerous, and high concentrations of methane—a component of sewer gas—can pose an explosion risk in enclosed spaces. If you smell sewer gas in your home, ventilate the area and call a professional to locate, assess, and fix the problem, as it will not go away on its own.
