Nancy was so helpful-she suggested a gorgeous budget friendly marble when my original granite choice turned out to be more expensive than anticipated. She always responded to my emails quickly. My install date happened sooner than originally scheduled! It went great and when I discover a minor flaw(a couple of inches of the counter top did not have a finished edge)-they came out immediately and fixed it. in My new kitchen counters are just stunning. I will definitely use Toluca Granite again. My parents home was destroyed in the Bastrop Complex fire on Labor day weekend, 2011. At the same time a different fire blazed through out neighborhood and burned all of the one acre forest behind our house. My parents moved in with us and we helped them work thorough the devastation of their lost lives. We then started talking about rebuilding, do we use the old slab, or not? Who do we call? We called the largest builder in our subdivision, we met with them and they didn't really have a plan that would work and they seemed high for the size they quoted. My mom had gotten a letter in the mail from a builder offering his services. My first reaction was " throw it away" as we had heard about all these "fly by night" builders who were trying to capitalize on this disaster. After the deal didn't fly with the first builder I told mom "let's call him" so we did. Mom called and visited with Sanford "Sandy" Meyerson, and he was very personable. He also told her that by coincidence, he had built a small office behind one of our neighbors, right on our street! So of course right away I contacted our neighbor who had glowing reviews for Sandy, and invited us down for a look at his handywork.We were all very impressed with the place and his demeanor, along with his business plan of using local vendors, Plus he belongs to "Angel Wings" which is a group of pilots who flies Cancer patients back and forth for treatment. His house was one of the few that survived in the Tahitian Village community in Bastrop so he was immersed in this disaster. He was also one of the selected builders to participate in the "Extreme Home Makeover" show filmed here in Bastrop. We felt good about Sandy, and proceeded:We had a floor plan from one of our neighbors who had a guest cottage they had built for their parents. They invited us down for a look and it was perfect, albiet a bit small. We have Sandy the floor plan, and asked to blow up the bedroom and living room. The other challenge was getting it to match our house, and to pass our very strict HOA building approval. This was all happening around Christmas time. We hadn't even signed a contract with Sandy and he brought my folks a beautiful gift basket. He worked hard to get the plans to work, and put in the custom features we needed such as ADA features.Then the day came, he was ready to submit the bid. He came over with the contract, and his offer. The price was quite a bit more than we had expected for a small house, but given the bid we got from the first builder, that must just be what it costs. He didn't expect them to decide right away so left us with the paperwork. After some debating, we (well my parents anyway decided to move forward.The construction:First thing I have to say, Sandy takes no shortcuts. I told him of the shifty soil we have and all the neighbors having foundation troubles. He asked for our engineering report from when we built, and once he had it in hand, he just about turned white. "we are gonna beef up that slab" and boy did he. I have never seen so much iron in a slab in my life! The guys he has that does slab and concrete work are amazing. They made little mini ramps built into the concrete by the front and back doors to make it easier for my dad!The construction process has gone smoothly and pretty swiftly. Sandy did all sorts of creative thinking to save money and resources for my folks who were building this with limited resources. One of our neighbors stopped by and I saw him looking closely at the lumber "he uses top grade lumber, this stuff's not cheap" I never even gave it a thought, but asked Sandy and he told me it's not worth saving a bit on cheap lumber. He's also very good about calling and checking with you on small details. He wants it to be right.Today's date: June 15th. In two weeks, it will have been four months since the slab was poured.Construction has gone on at a steady pace. We have since I began this review met all of his subs and seen their work. Every one of them is a master in his/her trade. Some of the things they have done, I have never seen done, like using this little tool that makes every grout line in the outdoor brick, exactly the same depth. It's beautiful.The home should be finished in two weeks. Yesterday they installed the AC system and even that guy from Leon's was very nice, and explained some of the "little extra's" he did to make sure the system is right. I expected the kitchen cabinets would come from a major cabinet factory like Merrilatt or the such, but nope. Sandy has a custom cabinet maker who came over and sat down with my mom, helped her pick the wood and then helped her design her layout. Tile work has been excellent. They have been very creative within mom and dad's budget. Granite countertops were done with such care you cannot see the one and only seam. The concrete guys have done all the flatwork and it's beautiful. They designed it to carry the water from our existing driveway all the way to the end and off into the yard. The house was finished and they moved in the second week of July. The house turned out perfect and the remaining bill was actually less than we expected. We were 100% satisfied with the work, with Sandy and his crews."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/smithville/meyerson-custom-builders-lp-reviews-6564453.htm"},"position":8},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Austin Granite Co","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"TX","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Ann E."},"reviewBody":"Steve, the owner did all the measurements. The counter was not a perfect rectangle so we made sure to point out all the considerations to Steve when he measured. His measurements were off so the counter didn't fit correctly. He refused to redo it. We found out later that the standard procedure was to first make a template to prevent these types of errors. He did not do that. I withheld some of the payment in order to hire someone else to finish the job. It was very hard to find someone to do such a small job. Finding a small matching piece of granite was also hard to do so it took us a while to finally get this job finished. In the meantime, Steve had filed a lien on our house because we didn't pay the full amount of the bid. Steve also has a problem dealing with women..He was so rude to my daughter & me, that I had to make sure that my husband was always home to deal with him when he came out. We finally had to hire a lawyer to get the lien released.

Dan did the odd jobs first, the powder room second, and the master bathroom last (we decided to add the master bathroom to the project after he had already begun work on the powder room). The powder room was just about finished when we left for a week-long vacation. Having worked with Dan in the past and having had a satisfactory prior experience, we let him work on the master bath while we were gone. He told us that by the time we returned from our trip, he would be finished tiling the master bathroom. When we returned from our trip, he was still tearing up the floor because he had run into some delays with the shower pan and the sub-floor. Unexpected things happen, and we understand that. Not a big deal. He asked for more money to finish the job which we paid (a slightly bigger deal). I'll also mention here that he had asked for 100% of the payment upfront before he started the master bath project (which we also paid). We returned from our trip in early June, and were told that the delays would set us back maybe a week. He didn't finish the job until late August. Technically, he never finished the job at all, because we got so tired of hounding him to touch up the paint chips on the cabinets, fix the chips in our bathtub (from using it as temporary storage for our toilet), and seal the grout, that we ended up just hiring other people to do those things for him. We also had to hire plumbers to come re-install all of the bathroom fixtures that Dan had installed after tiling the floors. The last time we saw him was in August when he told us he was running to Home Depot to get some supplies and just never came back and stopped returning our calls.
He also hired a subcontractor (who did a great job) to install the granite countertop in the master bath. We were not directly involved with the countertop guy at all - we did everything through Dan. Dan engaged the countertop guy and hired him to do the work. The entire time, we were under the impression that since Dan was acting as a contractor (and since we never got the opportunity to bid the countertop labor ourselves) that Dan's bid included the countertop labor (we never received an official written bid, estimate, or invoice from Dan despite repeated requests). Dan had the invoice for the countertop labor sent to our house. We called the countertop installer and told him that Dan was responsible for the labor bill. The countertop guy said that he had originally tried to bill Dan (since it made sense to do so) and Dan told him to bill us. When we initially refused to pay, Dan simply hid behind the countertop installer and pressured him to file a mechanic's lien on our house until we paid.
This started a lengthy email exchange between us and Dan that got more and more heated until he finally became so irrational in his responses that we just stopped replying to him. The entire project was horribly unorganized, terribly planned, and half-heartedly executed. This isn't to say that we didn't make a lot of mistakes ourselves in the process. Anyone who has read this far knows that we completely enabled him to do what he did to us: we paid him everything up front and without getting anything in writing."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/round-rock/d-p-painting-reviews-6374858.htm"},"position":10}]}

General contractors, exterior siding, roofing, thermal walls and thermal windows. Complete interior remodeling. Kitchens and bathrooms, flooring and painting. Foundation repair and custom patios
"Alex Blaker and his team were referred to me by ADU small home sales person in Austin Tx. My project was creating additional barrier walls in a home for the PadSplit app. We had to add 3 electrical outlets, as well as connect a clothes washer that required all lines electrical and water to be ran. Alex was cordial, easy to work with and genuinely cares about the work and level of craftsmanship that goes into the project. You will meet Dario and others on his team who are incredibly polite, clean, and efficient. Project was completed in a little over a week. Budget: initial bid around $7800 + taxes, two owner approved add ons elevated the project around $600. (Plug relocation, and dryer vent routing) Payment was made in 3 payments over the life of the project. I like this as it lets you see the project be started first. Alex kept me in the loop every day and came over in person to inspect, and recommend updates to the job. Happy to work with Alex and his team and look forward to working with them on future projects!"

"I paid Best Austin Handyman over $24,000 and I provided 95% of the demolition and materials and did all of the painting. The general contractor, Barrett Criscoe, said work could be completed without permits by a crew within 3 weeks beginning December 4th, 2017. This job did require permits and it took six weeks before the plans were right and accepted by the city during which I had no kitchen. Work began February 7th, 2018. It appears this nightmare won't be over until resolved in court. I fired them on April 24th. They did substandard work and charged me for things that were listed in my estimate, but that they either didn't do, did incorrectly, or very poorly. When they began work they would work for a few hours and then not show up for days or even weeks at a time. Barrett had the job foreman, Eric Gazur, and project manager, Nick Martin, do the electrical work that was supposed to be done by Andy Keil of Live Oak Electric. Those that did the electrical work appear to have been unqualified, unlicensed, and unsupervised. I found out that their work was not done correctly. Andy Keil refused to fix the electrical issues, telling me he had only been paid $500 to pull the permit as a favor to Barrett. Barrett wouldn't talk to me, handing me off to Megan Walker in accounting. When I asked for an itemized list of charges, she gave me a list with each item priced significantly higher than quoted in the estimate and insistence on charges for work never performed. They would not fix their electrical mistakes unless I paid them an additional $2800. A friend sent her son-in-law, a master electrician, to look at the electrical work they had done. He told me what they had done was unsafe and had been done illegally. I hired a legitimate and ethical electrician to fix numerous issues. So far I've spent $6,000 to correct shoddy work including corrected breakers in electrical panel, smoke detectors that were not properly daisy chained, loose wiring in attic, an unshielded live wire that was attached to the electrical panel, dishwasher and garbage disposal that were wired together into one switch, electrical sockets no longer working on one wall of the living room, two walls in the breakfast area, an outside light and outlet, the addition of required light in the attic and corrected wiring in attic to garage exterior light. Other contractors vented dryer from laundry room to exterior, repaired drywall and tile, and finished the other two sides of a beam I paid BAH to cover in drywall. They still need to hang the upper cabinets, move and vent the microwave, install toe kicks, shelving, and backsplash. I've already paid BAH for all of theseitems. For this extensive list of items to be completed or repaired Barrett Criscoe offered a refund of $1,000, which I declined. I've reported everyone involved to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. I've been told that each person involved can expect fines of up to $10,000 and revocation of licensure. This fiasco has caused extreme stress and loss of sleep, affecting my health. They took advantage of my initial lack of construction knowledge. I documented everything in my personal daily log and recommend anyone using these people do the same., or better yet, staying far away from everyone listed in this review. My goal is to save others from going through what I have."

Grade B: Minor flaws such as pits, fissures, or blotches
Grade C: Minor and major flaws like chipping and cracks requiring repair
Grade D: Significant damage needing repair, with dark veining and pronounced colors
Granite and marble compare well against each other in terms of price, durability, and aesthetic appeal. Deciding which one is better depends on your personal style and preference. Both materials resist damage like chips and cracks well. You should seal both material types against staining and etching, but they’re still susceptible if oil, wine, coffee, tomato sauce, or juice are left on the countertop long enough. As material and installation costs range similarly, the deciding factor is your budget, design, and preferences.
Installing granite kitchen countertops costs about $3,250, ranging from $2,000 to $4,000, depending on the quantity and quality of the granite, use of granite tile or granite slabs, the type of granite, and its color and texture.
