It was a beautiful craftsman style light wood mantle with green marble tile but it was large and the color of the tile was dated. Rolando suggested replacing it as part of a large update I'm doing. He said that his team could build a new stone fireplace for me.
I looked through many pictures of modern/contemporary stone fireplaces on Bing and found the picture of the fireplace I wanted. His team then picked the stone that most closely matched the picture and began to build the fireplace.
Many times when people try to recreate a picture, it comes out differently. In this case, it was almost exactly like the picture and I was really pleased.
When the final pieces were done, I was very happy but the designer who architected the fireplace wasn't. The stone that was against the wall didn't look up to his standards so he suggested a change. I originally didn't want a mantle on the fireplace because I don't plan on putting anything on it. The designer suggested that we put a small mantle and would face the edge of the limestone (which was rough) outward so it could be a nice contrast to the flat limestone that faced out on the rest of the fireplace. The I couldn't see it in my head but I've learned to trust him.
When the final project was finished, it was absolutely beautiful and the small mantle took what was already a beautiful stone fireplace to a place of beauty that I couldn't have imagined. Every time I walk by it, I smile. Rather than a very large fireplace that consumed the living space, I have this beautiful, elegant stone fireplace that is still the focal point of the room but is a piece of art.

There are MULTIPLE problems with my countertops. The installers never mentioned that 2cm granite needs to be installed over a plywood support; they just laid mine over the tops of the cabinets with a dab of construction adhesive. Right now I'm consulting with some competent professionals to see if they need to be pulled out and reinstalled. They also left a 12\" overhang granite bar inadequately supported. They told me that I could just go buy the right corbels at Home Depot -- but when (of course) Home Depot didn't have the right ones, they didn't return my calls. My contractor said that he'd used Campos before and that \"you can't even see the seams.\" Nonsense. I can see every single seam in the granite. In fact, there are even some places I'd describe as splotched. Most of the corners look like they were made entirely out of epoxy. There's even a ballpoint pen mark on one they mismeasured. He didn't mention anything about sealing the countertops -- although the first time I put a wet sponge on the granite I got a water spot. And finally -- this is the least of it -- he was never there when he said he was going to be and always in a rush when he did finally arrive. He was cheap -- I'll give him that. But you get what you pay for."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/edinburg/campos-granite-reviews-2330258.htm"},"position":8},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Ortega Painting & Remodeling Inc","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"TX","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Melynda N."},"reviewBody":"Martin is a wonderful painter, but his remodeling work is inconsistent. I should say that this was his first job out on his own -- many of the problems (especially the mis-bidding) might have to do with inexperience. And I did get good value for the money I paid. But I do feel that he over-promises and under-delivers. While most things were done correctly, he will confidently undertake work that he doesn't quite know how to do -- with the predictable results. I caught him trying to brick up a window without installing tar paper underneath; I was told only after he left that I might need plywood decking under the granite. And it was only when I called the appliance guy (after he left) that the dishwasher was installed so that it wouldn't jam against the cabinets! Plus, he's not great with follow-through. This was a long job, and at the beginning everything was perfect. But as time went on things were sloppier; the very last job he did for me was installing a set of shelves, which he did wrong (not spaced per my instructions), slapped one coat of paint on, (not at all like his usual painting work) and said \"I'm done.\" He left a granite bar inadequately unsupported -- \"You can do it,\" he said -- and his finish carpentry was sloppy and haphazard. When the cabinet maker had mismeasured the (brand new) cabinets so that the hinges for the fridge didn't fit, he proposed cutting two holes into the cabinets and patching with a piece of trim! (There was no other trim on the cabinets, so this would have looked VERY sloppy.) He also left a big mess -- \"I guess you'll be cleaning up for a while\" were his last words to me, besides trying to persuade me that I should ask him back to install the tile backsplash. (Ha!) I am a DIY person, but I was left doing much more DIY than I'd planned. Also -- watch out for the add-ons. While I did feel that I got a fair amount of work from him for a fair price, the pricing tends to be unpredictable. I'd always asked for one wall to be cut \"counter height\"; when the cabinets came in an inch shorter, he charged me another $125 to take the wall down to the height it was supposed to be in the first place. After installing the floor, he dinged me for another $200 because it was \"harder than he'd planned.\" As I said, I did pay him -- while we were waiting for the tile installer, he helped me with a lot of things that weren't in the bid -- so I did feel that I was charged a fair amount for work actually performed. But the \"add-ons\" did rankle me. (That's what you were supposed to do in the first place!) I would have felt better if he'd admitted that he mis-bid or did it wrong, or if he told me was charging me for the other services he performed. So if you want to know exactly how much you're paying and what you're paying for in advance, he's not your guy."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/edinburg/ortega-painting-and-remodeling-inc-reviews-2329249.htm"},"position":9},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Austin Countermeasure","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"TX","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Merrell F."},"reviewBody":"Johnnie met with us, explained the project in detail, gave a competitive estimate, directed us to a granite yard to pick what we wanted and was reliable and responsive. The project took longer than we thought but it was because we took a long time picking out the granite. Johnnie worked around our schedule and was flexible. He also had good ideas for design and good sources for sinks and faucets. After initial installation, he recommended that we replace one of the sections with a different piece of granite for coloring consistency and he covered the cost. We ended up using the extra granite to do the bathroom countertops. The one area he could improve on is being proactive in detail finishing, but when we pointed out details that needed touch-up, such as wall marks in the bathroom caused during installation, he addressed it."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/austin/austin-countermeasure-reviews-7906543.htm"},"position":10}]}

We remodeled our kitchen and didn't hire an overall project manager to manage all of the different contractors, we did it ourselves. Austin Granite Direct was truly a pleasure to work with. Their customer service was excellent. We had to reschedule the installation 3 times due to delays...

General contractors, exterior siding, roofing, thermal walls and thermal windows. Complete interior remodeling. Kitchens and bathrooms, flooring and painting. Foundation repair and custom patios
"Alex Blaker and his team were referred to me by ADU small home sales person in Austin Tx. My project was creating additional barrier walls in a home for the PadSplit app. We had to add 3 electrical outlets, as well as connect a clothes washer that required all lines electrical and water to be ran. Alex was cordial, easy to work with and genuinely cares about the work and level of craftsmanship that goes into the project. You will meet Dario and others on his team who are incredibly polite, clean, and efficient. Project was completed in a little over a week. Budget: initial bid around $7800 + taxes, two owner approved add ons elevated the project around $600. (Plug relocation, and dryer vent routing) Payment was made in 3 payments over the life of the project. I like this as it lets you see the project be started first. Alex kept me in the loop every day and came over in person to inspect, and recommend updates to the job. Happy to work with Alex and his team and look forward to working with them on future projects!"

"I paid Best Austin Handyman over $24,000 and I provided 95% of the demolition and materials and did all of the painting. The general contractor, Barrett Criscoe, said work could be completed without permits by a crew within 3 weeks beginning December 4th, 2017. This job did require permits and it took six weeks before the plans were right and accepted by the city during which I had no kitchen. Work began February 7th, 2018. It appears this nightmare won't be over until resolved in court. I fired them on April 24th. They did substandard work and charged me for things that were listed in my estimate, but that they either didn't do, did incorrectly, or very poorly. When they began work they would work for a few hours and then not show up for days or even weeks at a time. Barrett had the job foreman, Eric Gazur, and project manager, Nick Martin, do the electrical work that was supposed to be done by Andy Keil of Live Oak Electric. Those that did the electrical work appear to have been unqualified, unlicensed, and unsupervised. I found out that their work was not done correctly. Andy Keil refused to fix the electrical issues, telling me he had only been paid $500 to pull the permit as a favor to Barrett. Barrett wouldn't talk to me, handing me off to Megan Walker in accounting. When I asked for an itemized list of charges, she gave me a list with each item priced significantly higher than quoted in the estimate and insistence on charges for work never performed. They would not fix their electrical mistakes unless I paid them an additional $2800. A friend sent her son-in-law, a master electrician, to look at the electrical work they had done. He told me what they had done was unsafe and had been done illegally. I hired a legitimate and ethical electrician to fix numerous issues. So far I've spent $6,000 to correct shoddy work including corrected breakers in electrical panel, smoke detectors that were not properly daisy chained, loose wiring in attic, an unshielded live wire that was attached to the electrical panel, dishwasher and garbage disposal that were wired together into one switch, electrical sockets no longer working on one wall of the living room, two walls in the breakfast area, an outside light and outlet, the addition of required light in the attic and corrected wiring in attic to garage exterior light. Other contractors vented dryer from laundry room to exterior, repaired drywall and tile, and finished the other two sides of a beam I paid BAH to cover in drywall. They still need to hang the upper cabinets, move and vent the microwave, install toe kicks, shelving, and backsplash. I've already paid BAH for all of theseitems. For this extensive list of items to be completed or repaired Barrett Criscoe offered a refund of $1,000, which I declined. I've reported everyone involved to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. I've been told that each person involved can expect fines of up to $10,000 and revocation of licensure. This fiasco has caused extreme stress and loss of sleep, affecting my health. They took advantage of my initial lack of construction knowledge. I documented everything in my personal daily log and recommend anyone using these people do the same., or better yet, staying far away from everyone listed in this review. My goal is to save others from going through what I have."

"THE WHOLE JOB WAS AMAZING!! THANKS!! We had been wanting to get new windows for years, but the prices were ridiculous. Then Rick called, we agreed to let him come out and give us a price. We were skeptical when he quoted us a price, we had to ask twice about it being the full cost. We have a log home so the main thing was that we could keep our inside and outside trim, all the other companies said it would have to be replaced with their product. And again, the price was so much less than any of the others we had priced. Then came the installation, the crew he sent out was amazing, they went above and beyond to make sure everything was the way we wanted it. With a log home things are a little different and they made sure that everything was just right. Everything cleaned up when the left. The real test came this winter, with our old windows wind came in all around them.
No problem this winter no wind, nice and cozy.

FAQs for marble and granite service projects in Sunset Valley, TX
Installing a marble backsplash costs about $2,200 on average, ranging from $600 to $6,000, depending on the variety of marble and the labor costs to prep and install.
Common types of marble used for backsplashes include:
Makrana: $12 per square foot
Pink: $25 per square foot
Carrara: $40 per square foot
Statuatrio: $50 per square foot
Cultured: $65 per square foot
Travertine: $75 per square foot
Danby: $80 per square foot
Calacatta: $180 per square foot
Marble countertops cost$3,000 on average, ranging from about $2,000 to $5,000, depending on the type of marble, square footage, location, and whether you use tiles or slabs. Another major cost factor to consider is the grading of the marble, which determines its quality level.
Use this grading system when selecting marble for countertops:
Grade A: Nearly perfect with subtle veining
Grade B: Minor flaws such as pits, fissures, or blotches
Grade C: Minor and major flaws like chipping and cracks requiring repair
Grade D: Significant damage needing repair, with dark veining and pronounced colors
Granite and marble compare well against each other in terms of price, durability, and aesthetic appeal. Deciding which one is better depends on your personal style and preference. Both materials resist damage like chips and cracks well.
