"He and his team were very efficient and did us a great job! He was polite and worked well with us! His team cleaned up the whole area and removed all of the trash! He even touched back to be sure all was well with the roof and the job they did. We would hire them again for our roofing needs and any construction or repairs."

"Carter home and construction are the best! The team was early to arrive, clean , and ready to work. They made sure every part of the process was explained to my wife while I was at work and even bright my garbage can up from the street while they work. I would recommend the company to anybody that needs construction or home improvement"

"I recently met Rolando Medina who is the owner of RM Roofing out of McGregor,Texas through my neighbor who is using his company to replace their roof as well. Rolando has been in business for 20 years and upon meeting him I was very impressed with his demeanor, courtesy and knowledge. Also I would like to mention he was very responsive to my calls and texts when I had any questions and he arrived on time as scheduled. His team stayed on the job even during the heat of the day. Rolando is not like some contractors who ride around in an air conditioned truck with a cell phone....He is a hands on supervisor and was on the roof as much as any of his team. He kept me informed of the progress and completed the tearoff and installion to include cleanup in 2 days. His price was way below the other estimates for the same materials and his workmanship was excellent. I highly recommend that you have him bid your job and compare apples to apples. I think you will be pleasantly surprised as I was."

"Excellent service from start to finish. From the first contact, they were very professional, punctual, and clear with all the information. The crew worked efficiently, cleanly, and with great attention to detail. They explained the entire roofing process and answered all my questions without any issues. The final result exceeded my expectations, and you can really see the quality of both the materials and the workmanship. I highly recommend them and would definitely hire them again."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

A metal roof can last anywhere from 15 to over 100 years, with an average of 50 years, depending on the material, installation, and environment. The specific metal is a key factor: aluminum roofs may last 20 to 45 years, while steel can last 30 to 60 years. Tin can last for up to 75 years, and more durable options like zinc, stainless steel, and copper can last from 80 to over 100 years. Factors that can shorten a metal roof's lifespan include living in a coastal region with corrosive salt air, improper installation (such as laying over old shingles), and failing to inspect and replace fasteners, which may wear out before the panels.

Roofers most often use nails to fasten roofing shingles and other roofing materials. Nails have more holding power than staples and offer better weather resistance and longevity. However, it is possible to use staples instead of nails when installing a roof. Staples are less expensive, but not as high-quality.

The lifespan of a torch down roof depends on the number of layers installed. A single-ply system typically lasts between 10 and 15 years, while a multi-layer system with two or three layers can last from 15 to 25 years. Although a multi-layer option may be more expensive upfront, it provides a longer service life. Warranties often reflect this, with about 12 years for a one-ply system and 15 years for a two-ply system. For context, this lifespan is shorter than other common roofing materials like wood or asphalt shingles, which typically last 20 to 30 years, with high-quality versions lasting up to 50 years.

A new roof may improve insulation and ventilation problems that can lead to ice dams, but it’s not a solution for preventing them. All roofs are susceptible to the conditions that cause ice dams, so it’s best to invest your money into insulation and gutter management solutions rather than a new roof if you don’t need a replacement yet.

The common formula for measuring a roof is length x width equals square footage. Professional roofers measure the length and width of your roof, including dormers, and determine its pitch and rafter sizes. If a roof surface is a triangle, they’ll divide that square footage by two, then add up the square footage of each surface to get the total for the roof.
