"Last October, my sister, an elderly veteran living alone, contracted Genie Bath Systems to remodel her master and guest baths. She was diagnosed cancer and passed before the remodel was complete. Which, to be fair as we were not able to work with Genie while attending to my sister. The contract was expensive. Very expensive. The cost of the remodel is close to 1/4th the value of her home. I noticed there were issues with the remodel that showed a surprising lack of attention to detail. Genie sent people to address the issues twice. Yet issues remain. My calls to my contact at Genie are now being ignored. Also, the only document I have for the remodel is the contract my sister signed. It is not detailed. I have and continue to ask for a breakdown of the cost. An estimate or work order. This request is also being ignored. I am disappointed and have to wonder why Genie will not provide this information. I have several other questions for Genie that I will not go into here. But based on my experience, I cannot recommend Genie. In fact I would warn anyone considering Genie to be very careful about the cost of the contract."

He did a great job and was very friendly! I’ve had no issues with my shower and i love it! And incredibly Thankyou they offer upkeep service like the recaulking to keep it looking beautiful!!!"

The lifespan of your water heater depends on the type of water. For traditional water heaters, you can expect it to last between 8 and 12 years if gas or 10 to 15 years if electric. Tankless water heaters can last up to 20 years with proper maintenance. The total number of years you’ll get out of your water heater depends on the maintenance it receives and how much it’s used.

The standard copper wire gauge to use with any 30-amp circuit is a 10-gauge wire. The National Electric Code specifies a 10-gauge wire with appliances like water heaters running on 30 amps. If you try to use a smaller gauge wire, such as a 12 gauge, with a 30-amp breaker, you run the risk of the wire overheating and melting or causing a fire. Because of the safety hazards, the gauge of the wire is not an area to try to cut costs when connecting a 30-amp breaker to a water heater.

Water expands when heated and also when freezing. When water is heated, it expands by around 4%. For a full water heater, this is one of the main reasons malfunctions occur—the hot water has nowhere else to go but out. Due to the constant expansion and reduction in volume, it’s recommended (required in most places) that an expansion tank be installed.

How long a water heater lasts depends on the type. A conventional tanked water heater has an average lifespan of eight to 12 years. Tankless models typically last a little longer, anywhere from 10 to 15 years. Regular maintenance can help you extend the life of your water heater and keep operating costs in check.

Homeowners' insurance covers water heaters under certain circumstances. If your water heater is damaged due to a covered event, like a fire or burst pipe, your policy may pay for repairs or replacement. However, insurance won’t cover wear and tear, old age, or neglect. If a malfunctioning water heater causes water damage, your policy may help with cleanup and repairs, but not fixing or replacing the heater itself unless the damage resulted from a covered event.
