Tony came out initially to install a new ceiling fan for us - it looks great!

We asked if he would check the landscape lighting as it was tripping the circuit breaker every time we turned them on. Bottom line - the lights we had installed when we built the house were not meant to be used as landscape lights.  They were meant to "light up the trees"  at Christmas time (like the SA Riverwalk).  Tony explained to us the lights needed to be "professional grade" in order to get the results we wanted. BOY! Did we ever!! He and his coworker - John spent two days removing old lights and wires and replacing with the upgraded landscape lights in the front and backyards. They were careful not to disturb our flowerbeds and landscaping and cleaned up their work areas as they went along. Tony included a much appreciated timer for the lights as well. How welcoming it is to come home at night to a beautifully lit house!

We cannot say enough nice things about these two fine gentlemen and their professionalism.  The trees on our property are magnificent and the up lighting only highlights that. We have already spent many a peaceful evening outside admiring their work and how VERY glad we are that we made contact with this company. I would have NO problems recommended them to anyone - in fact I have already done so!  THANK YOU MR. ELECTRIC - TONY and JOHN!!

"Manuel Contreras and Mari Contreras were extremely courteous and highly professional throughout my service. Manuel visited the house within 1 day of my original call, to assess my insulation and other needs in our attic to improve our overall energy efficiency. He took multiple photos of the attic to show me what he recommended and why. He completely answered any questions about the work, and product and labor costs. They worked with my schedule (just before Christmas) to completely insulated my attic to cover previously exposed joists and what had been an uninsulated attic area above the garage. Additionally, they applied sealant to the air-conditioning ducts and all the exposed spaces to interior sheetrock walls, added an exhaust fan to help with cooling in the summer months, added a cover/tent insulator over my inner attic pull-down, and cleaned up "junk" in the attic that was left there by previous workers (lighting fixtures, wood, paper, etc). As an added bonus, they completed and submitted all the paperwork required for my local rebate. I was very pleased with the professionalism and courtesy offered by Manuel and Mari throughout the process and I highly recommend Insulation Works as one of the best service providers that I have used."

"I needed a couple of light fixtures replaced and a ceiling fan replaced. Mike Rogers was the service rep, and he did a great job. He even took the time to clean up the debris from the project. I also needed some light bulbs replaced and he took care of that also. I just really appreciate the help. At 81 yrs. old I can't climb on ladders anymore, so, it was great to have someone who could reach the light fixtures to change the bulbs. It's the little things that make the difference and Mike took the time to provide that. I'll defiantly be calling Mr. Electric again."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Stainless steel or aluminum fans are long-lasting and have less air resistance. They are best for outdoor use as their durability helps them withstand unpleasant weather conditions. Their heavy weight requires a stronger motor, which leads to more noise than other blade materials.

Wooden fan blades are a classic, durable option. They are much quieter than metal fans and feature a wide range of styles and finishes to choose from. However, they can be damaged by moisture if not covered with plastic.

Plastic fan blades are lightweight, easy to clean, and versatile. There are various shapes and styles to choose from as plastic is easily molded and dyed. They will also deteriorate slower than other materials as they aren’t as susceptible to humidity and moisture.

The square footage of your room will dictate the correct ceiling fan blade size. For example:

  • Rooms smaller than 75 square feet require a fan that is 29 to 36 inches.

  • Rooms up to 175 square feet require 42- to 48-inch fans.

  • Rooms up to 350 square feet require 52- to 56-inch fans.

  • Expansive spaces over 350 square feet need a fan larger than 60 inches.

To determine if your ceiling box can support a fan, you must check if it is specifically fan-rated. Manufacturers are required to indicate this on the box itself. You may need to remove the existing light fixture to look inside the ceiling box for an inscription stating it is rated for fan use. If you do not see this confirmation, the box is likely not strong enough and must be replaced with a fan-rated junction box. For a proper and safe installation, you should also use a fan brace to secure the new box between the ceiling joists, which provides the necessary support for the fan's weight and motion.

Generally, a ceiling fan should be mounted at least seven feet from the floor in the center of your room with a wall clearance of around 18 inches. If your ceiling is more than eight feet high, it’s recommended by experts that the ceiling fan be mounted around eight to nine feet from the ground. This helps ensure a better quality of circulated airflow.

To convert a ceiling fan to wireless, you’ll need to install a canopy module to access the lighting and fan controls. Many options are available, all of which help you control specific elements of your ceiling fan, so you have plenty of choices depending on your needs.
