After another three days, there were more cracks in the walls and the crack in the floor had doubled in width. I had Mr. Cox come by to survey the situation on August 23. Noting the damage, he assured me that he stood behind his work and that he would work with me on correcting the situation. I had a structural engineer survey the sinking foundation on August 25, 2008. His report stated that the foundation had sunk 2.7 from end to end and that 18 piers would be required to arrest the movement and properly support the structure. Cost was estimated at $6,000.00 One day later I had a foundation repair company give me a bid on repairing the foundation. They stated that the foundation had now sunk 2.9 end to end and that it would require 14 piers to support the foundation. Cost was quoted as $5,250.00. After exchanging several emails with Mr. Cox, it finally became clear to me that I ll work with you and we stand behind our work was just so much b.s. When pressed to take some financial responsibility, he stated that I had failed to inform him that there might be water under the soil (remember that the lake is 40 feet away and 3 below the bottom of the foundation in elevation) and that he was therefore not at fault. He further stated that given the same situation in the future, he would do exactly the same thing. He disavowed any responsibility, but again stated that he would work with me . More cracks appeared in the walls and another crack appeared in the floor in the next two weeks.
