"I needed a couple of light fixtures replaced and a ceiling fan replaced. Mike Rogers was the service rep, and he did a great job. He even took the time to clean up the debris from the project. I also needed some light bulbs replaced and he took care of that also. I just really appreciate the help. At 81 yrs. old I can't climb on ladders anymore, so, it was great to have someone who could reach the light fixtures to change the bulbs. It's the little things that make the difference and Mike took the time to provide that. I'll defiantly be calling Mr. Electric again."

My experience was phenomenal with Mr. Elliott. He first came exactly a week before the work was done for inspection and we went over how I could not stand getting into my attic because of how hot it was in there. Another issue that I was having is that I even had a raccoon living in a part of my attic that had never been seen or insulated until his crew came on work day. When he inspected everything, he noticed that the two fans I had then were out of date and probably had quit working months ago.

Work day comes, and they made it on the time that I had asked them to come because I had to drop off my children. They were respectable of my situation and came at the time I was available. They set up two solar fans as replacements the old fans I had first that way air could already being circulating. They did not take long to do the insulation part of the job until the employee who was blowing the insulation found a secret part of my attic that I had no idea was there. Turns out the company that insulated my attic before them had covered up the little gap with a plastic radiant barrier. I was pleased that the employee was professional enough to actually tell me about my secret attic room and he went ahead and insulated it at no extra cost.

"This is my go to electrical professional from here on. Simon installed a chandelier, 2 recessed lights, and an outlet in my attic for my Nest Outdoor security camera in under 5 hours for an honest price. The cost for all that was in fact barely more than what a more commercial company was going to charge just for the recessed lights. Not only that, the quality of the work is superb. If you need an electrician, call Simon."

"The addition was blended into the present structure and made to appear as if it had been there the entire time. They included a ceiling fan under the patio cover and electrical outlet in a location that I had selected. The workers were very professional and definately knew what they were doing. They matched the paint to our satisfaction. They removed all debris and kept the site organized through out the time that the job was being done. Once the job was done the results was pleasing to the eye and certainly added value to the property. My wife is very pleased with the results.

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

In short, no. You can use the square footage range chart in this article to determine the right size ceiling fan for both indoor and outdoor spaces. However, weather elements can damage types of ceiling fans that aren't designed for outdoor use, so your ceiling fan should be weather-resistant if you plan to install it outside.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.

Whether you can install a ceiling fan yourself depends on if you're replacing an existing fixture or installing one where no wiring exists. If you are replacing an existing fan, an experienced DIYer may be able to do the job, which can save on labor costs. This work typically doesn’t require a permit, but there’s always a safety risk when dealing with electrical components, so hiring a pro is still a good idea, especially if you aren't handy. Keep in mind you may need a special ladder for high or vaulted ceilings. However, if you are installing a new ceiling fan where there is no current fixture, you must hire a licensed electrician. In most areas, it is required by law that a professional runs new wiring and pulls the necessary permits. Attempting to install wiring yourself can be dangerous and a code violation.

Yes, you can install a ceiling fan where a standard light fixture is, as the electrical wiring is often similar and may not need to be replaced. The most important step is to ensure the ceiling can support the fan's weight and motion. You will need to replace the existing light fixture's electrical box with a fan-rated electrical box, which is specifically designed to handle the extra weight and vibration. These boxes will be labeled as suitable for ceiling fan support and will indicate the maximum weight they can hold. Before you begin, also consider if you need an extension rod for a high ceiling or a special mount for an angled ceiling.

Stainless steel or aluminum fans are long-lasting and have less air resistance. They are best for outdoor use as their durability helps them withstand unpleasant weather conditions. Their heavy weight requires a stronger motor, which leads to more noise than other blade materials.

Wooden fan blades are a classic, durable option. They are much quieter than metal fans and feature a wide range of styles and finishes to choose from. However, they can be damaged by moisture if not covered with plastic.

Plastic fan blades are lightweight, easy to clean, and versatile. There are various shapes and styles to choose from as plastic is easily molded and dyed. They will also deteriorate slower than other materials as they aren’t as susceptible to humidity and moisture.
