"Marvin is a well equipped professional who knows what he's doing. He removed the 10' driveway gate, dug up and replaced the swing post with a larger post and more concrete, then rehung the gate. He then cut into a fence section at the back of the property, installed a new fence post, fabricated a gate from the material he had removed from the fence, and then hung the gate. All work was spray painted with primer and then matching black paint. The worksite was left clean. He works with a practiced efficiency that makes everything look easy. Marvin is an excellent contractor who responds promptly, shows up when he says, and conducts himself in a professional manner. I would hire him anytime."

"Andrew ( owner and operator) showed up on time on the promised day. He worked quickly and efficiently, and did a great job. I don't feel he rushed the job, and created a gate I'm very happy with. I would recommend him to anyone."

"They did a fabulous job. I had an overgrown landscape and weeds. The first day they cleared the fence line, weeded the flowerbeds and removed dead/sick foliage and pruned some trees. The second day they spread mulch and also mowed/edged, I didn't know my yard was so big. Mr Lopez stayed with his quote. The value was there. Mr Lopez was polite, dependable and I would definitely hire his team again."

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

Features include automation, intercoms, keypads, and decorative elements. Custom options enhance security and style.

The obvious disadvantage of an automatic gate is that it runs on electricity. If the power goes out, it won’t open or close unless there’s a manual override. Many homeowners will need a backup generator so they don’t get stuck on either side of the gate, particularly when looking to park a vehicle. Automatic gates are also much more complicated than manual gates, with tech-heavy components that make them more expensive to repair.

When making this decision, three essential factors come into play. For budget-conscious individuals, swing gates are the more economical choice. Despite the possibility of both gate types having similar dimensions, many types of sliding gates demand a more intricate opening mechanism and additional components, requiring electrical work for motors and signaling remotes, resulting in higher installation costs.

Other mechanisms can help you keep your gate securely shut. Secure gate latch types will do the job, such as magnetic or spring-loading, self-closing lever varieties, or automatic gate openers. However, they won’t control the speed at which the gate closes. You can purchase slam plates that use rubber buffers to reduce noise and the potential damage-inducing impact of a fast-closing, heavy gate.
