"My experience with C and A Tree and Lawn Service was the BEST experience I have EVER had with a service provider. They were on time and ready to work. And work they did! They were amazingly efficient and knowledgable. This was definitely not their first rodeo. They removed the dead limbs that I had identified when we met the day before for our estimate. Then, they proceeded to remove the dead branches and limbs that I had not seen. They were fast, efficient and VERY thorough. They completely cleared away the discarded branches and limbs. "it's a bit pricey, but if my trees are saved it'll be worth every penny. Dr. Bob was incredibly nice and he knows his stuff. After 45 years in the business I would hope he does. Another plus? Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. You can trim just one side of the tree, especially when that side is growing near something like a power line or a home. Pros will carefully trim the tree back until it is safe from that structure. Palm tree roots grow as deep as three feet into the ground, although soil and growing conditions could mean they go as far as 50 inches into the earth. 

If you want to be able to repurpose the grass in the area where you removed a stump later, you’ll have to dig quite deep—and perhaps wide—to trim away all the roots.
