"I hired him after getting multiple quotes. But with work, my wife dealt with them during the tree services. My wife stated they were great. Showed up on time and did a wonderful job. Would highly recommend!!"

Customers say: Quick response

"I am so impressed with the skill, safety and care these men took in removing 3 trees, stump grinding, trimming, clean up and disposal. They made the job look so easy! They had great attitudes and did more than I expected! Our yard is small and I was concerned that there might be damage to my fence or flower beds, but not even one delicate blossom was harmed! I am truly amazed with their professionalism and work ethic. Itâ s like the trees were never there! The cost was very reasonable and I couldnâ t be happier! Ventura Tree Services will be the only tree service I will hire, and the only tree service I will recommend."

"I needed removal of a large tree and emailed 6 requests for quote to local services. Misty, at Family Tree Service, responded within an hour. It took 2 days for a second company to reply and 3 days for a third; the third called me rather than using email as I requested. The other 3 never even bothered to reply. Misty coordinated inspection of my tree and delivery of a quote on the following day. I conferred with the manager of ground crews for my HOA, and he confirmed the price was good. He also said he knew the Family Tree folks and recommended them as honest and competent. I told Misty to do it. She said the crew would perform as if it were their own property. The crew arrived as scheduled a few days later at 8 AM, and two and a half hours later the tree was gone, and stump and roots were ground. At my request, they also left 6 cubic yards of quality mulch. The crew was friendly, professional and fast. This is among the easiest 5-Star ratings possible. Misty was extremely responsive and professional. The crew did exactly as promised and as I requested. The price was right. This compared with 5 local competitors who were pretty much the opposite in each category. My conclusion: an industry that generally is poor and in which finding a 5-Star company is even more valuable than usual. Bill McDonald"

"Happy with the quote and result. Referred them to several others who are using them for similar tree services. Will use them again when needed. Crew worked hard and adjusted with my requests. Great job."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

No, homeowners insurance typically does not cover the cost of removing a dead, sick, or rotting tree that is still standing. Insurance is designed to protect against sudden and unexpected accidents, whereas a tree dying or rotting over time is considered a maintenance issue. Coverage usually only applies after a tree has fallen and caused damage to your property.

A pro can guide you on the alternatives to tree topping depending on the specific issues within your trees. For example, if you’re dealing with breakage and cracks in your tree, they may suggest canopy reduction, which removes less than 25% of the tree’s limbs. If you’re dealing with lesser damage, some intentional pruning may be all you need. If you’re looking to get a clearer view through your tree, the pro may also try windowing or skirting your tree.

Yes, it’s possible to overwater a newly-planted tree. Daily watering is great for the first few weeks, but it’s important not to go overboard. Excessive watering can lead to various problems, including root rot, fungal diseases, and a lack of root development.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.

Using vinegar to kill tree roots is just one of the clever ways to use vinegar around the house. The method works best when you apply vinegar as directly to the root system as possible. For example, if the old tree roots and stump are currently exposed, drill holes in the tops of the roots and pour undiluted white vinegar into the holes to soak into the plant. Remember that vinegar can kill the surrounding grass and plants should it pour over the edge.
