"John said he could do "chip seal"same day.I did not understand the difference between asphalt and chip seal what i got was glued down rock???When I wrote him the check for 2000.00 made out to JB Asphalt he would not take it,he ask me to make it out to J.Gohrman because that was the DBA they were useing???.They left a pile of unused chip in the street and a pile of loose gravel they scraped off my driveway in front of my neighbors gate to there property! So far the "chip seal" is holding up.When he said chip seal i thought it would be rock with a sealer over the loose rock.I should of ask for Pictures, live and learn."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Yes, recycled asphalt driveway costs can be substantially lower than new asphalt. With new asphalt costing between $90 and $190 per ton, this option can cost as much as 10 times more than laying down asphalt millings.

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.

While paving a driveway is possible to do as a DIY project, we don’t recommend it. Hiring a driveway professional to pave it will ensure that your driveway looks neat and clean and lasts for years to come, and it will also prevent a weak driveway and, potentially, damage to your foundation. Paving a driveway requires heavy machinery, and while you can rent the equipment needed, operating it close to your garage slab or around your home’s foundation can crack it and lead to structural issues.

Professionals restore the surface to a fresh, attractive finish by applying a new, even sealant layer.
