"This was an existing cabin, so the re-stain had to match perfectly. They were meticulous about getting it right so they spent the time and effort to make it look perfect. And they accomplished it. I would hire them to paint and/or stain anything I own."

"Definitely the best experience I have ever had with a contractor. Josh Taylor has worked with me, keeping me informed on all issues and price concerns, I had with my roof replacement. Josh even meet with my insurance company adjustor, during my roof inspection, to get the best possible claim assessment. Josh and his team did an excellent job on my new roof. This is my 3rd roof replacement and this one, is now my Best roof replacement I have ever had. After my roof replacement, I discussed with Josh, what options I may have on getting my siding replaced. Again, Josh worked with me, choosing my best options, in material choices, for quality and resale value for my home. This is beyond a 5 star job. Thank You, Josh, and a huge Thank You to your team, for my â newâ old home. Overall, I now have a new, 30 year roof, new Hardie board siding, repaired soffits and fascia, and fresh paint. Awesome improvementsâ ¦ My house looks great!!!"

Painting questions, answered by experts

You should inspect the area regularly for rust, clean it with a wire brush, repaint it every few years, and apply a protective sealant to prevent corrosion.

You can weather a new wood fence by applying vinegar with steel wool as a way to fade some of the coloring. You may also find it easier to stain your entire fence a new color instead of trying to get newer fence boards to match an older one.

Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.

When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.

To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.

If you want to achieve a deeper, darker stain color, wait 5 to 10 minutes before wiping it off. However, wipe it off faster for a lighter tone. When wiping off the stain during this part of the process, be sure to work in the direction of the wood’s grain for best results.

A five-gallon bucket of deck stain will cover roughly 875 square feet in a single coat. Actual coverage will vary based on the type of wood you’re staining and the number of coats. If you plan on doing multiple coats, multiply the square footage by the number of coats to calculate how many buckets of stain you’ll need.
