"John and his sons were excellent! If we could give them a rating higher than a 5 we would! John explained everything in detail, and did every thing right! He went above and beyond, upon his suggestion of a renovation to our siding on our home we saved enough money to put new windows all around! Not just on the front of the house! all three of them go the extra mile and the take care of your stuff! Very respectful and excellent work we are delighted! we will have them back for interior work soon."

"Scenic Green Landscaping is one of the best contractors I’ve worked with. Eric was straightforward with the process and rates, and the work was done to my expectations and beyond. Why? I didn’t expect to have my driveway power washed after all the grass, mulch, and river rock was installed. That was a cherry on top for this project. I’ve worked with a number of contractors for various projects, and Eric’s professionalism every step of the way was greatly appreciated."

Small jobs welcome

"Miguel and his crew did an excellent job in hardscaping (including limestone patio floor) my back yard. He offered ideas to help with drainage and was honest about pricing. They showed up. They did quality work. I would definitely recommend H3 for hardscape and masonry projects."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Sealing coat asphalt after 6-12 months and then every 2-3 years is recommended.

Driveway aprons typically range between four and seven inches thick, though your town's building codes will likely have specific requirements. Additionally, you may need to add a layer of permeable aggregate in the excavation below your paved apron to ensure proper stormwater drainage.

New asphalt typically needs 24 to 72 hours to dry before it can handle light foot traffic and careful driving. Although it may appear solid after a few days, the full curing process, where the asphalt reaches its peak strength, takes much longer—generally from 30 days to a year.

During this extended curing time, the surface remains relatively soft and can be damaged by heavy vehicles, sharp objects, or high temperatures. To protect your investment, it's best to avoid parking heavy machinery on the asphalt until it has fully cured.

The exact time required for drying and curing depends on several factors, including the weather, the specific asphalt mix, and its thickness. For the most accurate advice tailored to your situation, consult with your asphalt contractor.

An asphalt driveway should be at least 3 inches thick over a compacted gravel base. Areas with poor drainage should have a thicker stone base. To install a new asphalt driveway over an existing driveway, the new asphalt should be at least 2 inches thick and the existing driveway should be in relatively good condition.

Many asphalt companies have experience with tar and chip paving, but not all. The process is unique enough—and not incredibly common enough—that you may have to look around for a tar and chip specialist. However, speaking with a driveway company is a great place to start, especially if they have experience with multiple materials.
