"Not only is David highly skilled in resolving HVAC issues, but he was a pleasure to work with and taught me a lot! He was punctual, communicative and patient, taking the time to explain what the issues were (in plain English), and in the end solved my A/C problems much faster AND cheaper than the so called “best in town” HVAC company I was working with. Highly recommend, and will be calling him back again!"

"The technician was very professional he put his paper shoe protector every time he went in and out of the house and did not try to hard sell me on anything. He came into the house up into the atic first and check out everything up their and we briefly talked about add a humidifier  for the whole house (this was a question that I asked) and he told me what all would be involved. He did not even try to hard sale me on this. Then we went out side check out the outside unit and everything checked out great. He could have told me that I needed Freon and sold me one it but he didn't do that.
I am going to call Metro next time I need servicing and well ask for the same tech, he was great and knew what he was doing.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

This depends on the extent of the freezing. Some ACs only need an hour or two to thaw out, but others may need a full day to completely unfreeze. Once you turn off the system to let it unfreeze, check it periodically to make sure the drain pan doesn’t overflow. When you turn the system back on, keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn’t start freezing again.

If you’re looking for a portable, budget-friendly cooling solution that doesn’t require any venting or installation, a ventless AC system is a good option. Similarly, this is a great choice if you’re renting an apartment or home and aren’t allowed to make large, structural changes like installing comprehensive HVAC, or you’re in a shared space and only need to cool your own room.

Yes, you can potentially save $60 to $200 by handling your own air conditioner capacitor installation. However, capacitor replacement comes with the risk of electric shock. Only attempt this if you have the knowledge and protective gear to carry it out safely. Otherwise, we recommend hiring an HVAC pro with the experience to properly diagnose the issue and avoid damaging other parts of your AC unit.

A power outage can damage your air conditioner, just like a power surge can damage any electrical device or appliance. In most cases, your circuit breaker or built-in surge protection on your AC unit protects your AC and just needs a reset. But in other cases, it might be that your AC compressor or capacitor was blown during the power surge. You’ll need to have an HVAC professional repair or replace any AC parts.

Ideally, an AC system should never need more Freon (a popular refrigerant) because it circulates in a closed loop. However, refrigerant leaks are not uncommon and may occur gradually over 5 to 15 years. If your system has a leak, it will need to be topped up in a process known as an AC recharge. Signs of a refrigerant leak include weakened AC performance, increased humidity in your home, higher utility bills, and a hissing sound from the unit. The cost of an AC recharge will depend on the size and type of your AC unit, as well as the type of refrigerant it uses.
