"JT and his crew did a fantastic job on our tree removal! Quality work, honest and reliable! JT himself was very patient with us as we have multiple items to do in our backyard and he helped us prioritize the items especially since we were on a budget. We ended up removing a VERY large oak tree over 30ft tall probably and they did so very carefully and left the backyard even cleaner than what it was before! 10/10 would recommend!"

"We hired DLP Contractors to install a back patio, pool pad and a slab for our new shed. From the consult to the final inspection of the work the customer service was excellent. The attention to detail, punctuality of the work day and the timeline was all done exactly as planned. Thank you to the whole team for making our backyard more enjoyable."

"Baker Septic Systems did an excellent job for us replacing our old septic system with a new aerobic system. Our property is on solid rock and Bill Baker and his crew got the job done without any problems. Honest, punctual, and professional. Excellent quality work and reasonable prices. Strictly adhered to all Covid-19 guidelines. My neighbor also had him put in a system and he was extremely pleased also. Highly recommend!!!"

"I highly recommend Sierra Landscape LLC of Boerne, TX. I've done 2 significant projects with them & been extremely happy each time. Steve Fey & his crew went beyond my expectation on my latest backyard project. The low maintenance & safe design will help save me time & money. My steep terraced beds needed a great sturdy solution & Steve Fey came up with a creative plan for an attractive raised bed design. I can't wait to host a party."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Because decomposed granite is a durable material, a crushed rock or gravel base is optional as long as the DG is properly installed and compacted. However, installing a base is a good idea because it will ensure proper drainage and stability and act as a weed suppressant (although you may still occasionally have to pull weeds). Installing an adequate base can also increase the durability of driveways and walkways. If you forego the paver base or gravel underneath, line the area with landscaping fabric to avoid weeds.

A mini excavator can dig between 5 and 11 feet deep, depending on the type and size of the mini excavator. Mini hydraulic excavators are more powerful and can reach deeper into the earth, but electric models have a more limited range. Mini excavators over two tons in size are also more powerful and able to dig as deep as 11 feet.

Call 811 to locate and mark the gas lines at least three days before digging. In many areas, you can dig within 18 inches of the lines, though in some locations, the distance may be further. Check local regulations, as you may need a utility company representative onsite when digging. Document your calls to 811 and precautions taken to avoid gas lines. A homeowner can be held liable for hitting a gas line in some cases, but contacting the proper authorities and following all guidelines can offer protection.

Excavation is priced in cubic yards, so you’ll need to find the volume of the area in order to calculate costs. Multiply the length, width, and proposed depth of your excavation site, then convert it into yards to get the volume. Multiply this figure by the price per cubic yard.

Most homeowners can measure by hand to get a rough estimate, even if it’s tedious. You may want to pull out a tape measure or use a string to help mark the area.

Maintain open communication and address issues as they arise, ensuring contract terms cover potential delays.
