"Cristian did an amazing job remodeling my walk-in shower. Before starting he carefully protected my hardwood floors, covered the furniture with plastic, and sealed my clothes closet door to protect them from damage and dust. He helped me choose the tile as we had to match the existing tile and stone design. He was meticulous in his prep work, removing and replacing rotten wood and insulation under the tiles. He did an exquisite, high quality job with the tile design and installation. I am truly pleased with the job done and my experience throughout the process. Cristian is very considerate, polite and devoted to quality work and customer satisfaction. I strongly recommend him for your next tile project!"

"I hired R&T because of the excellent review on Home Advisor and was not disappointed! They are extremely detailed oriented, professional, puntual and they know their tile very well. I love how they installed my marble herringbone backsplash. Don't hire a contractor that will overcharge you and only bring others to do the job. I would recommend R&T for any tile installation."

"We had a crack in the grout of our tile floor which caused the floor to bulge upward. Grout Medic came out and removed the grout, reglued all the loose tiles and put in new grout. It looks great! Flat and blends right in with the existing grout. They also contacted us immediately when we asked for a quote. They got us on the schedule within a week. The guys who did the work were very nice and did a great job."

"Emrah and his team were very involved in making sure my bathroom tile project had the best possible outcome. He suggested the best type/size of tile, grout color, edging etc. that would create the best look. He took his time and was very detail oriented. He did not take shortcuts or worry about the amount of time he had to spend on the project to make sure it was right. He was willing to negotiate his labor cost upfront and never tried to add additional labor cost even thought the project took a little longer than expected due circumstances beyond his control. He asked for half of the cost upfront and the other half only after the project was completed, inspected by me, and any issues resolved. I have other projects at the house in mind and plan to hire Emrah in the near future."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t need to remove the old grout before installing new tile over existing tile. In fact, the old grout helps fill in gaps between tiles, creating a more even surface for the new layer. However, it's important to ensure that the grout is clean, solid, and free of cracks or crumbling areas. Damaged grout should be repaired or replaced before proceeding. Cleaning the surface thoroughly and filling any low spots will help the new adhesive bond properly and ensure a smooth, stable installation.

Yes, but you should only put tile directly on drywall in smaller areas that don’t experience excess moisture. For example, a small kitchen tile backsplash could work, but installing tile directly on the drywall in a bathroom or other chronically damp area is not a good idea. Either way, a cement backer board is a far more reliable solution, as drywall is susceptible to moisture and can warp or cause your tiles to crack.

Yes, you can tile over existing tiles in a bathroom, but it is not always recommended. For this method to be successful, the original tile surface must be clean, flat, and free of damage such as cracks, unevenness, mold, or mildew. While tiling over existing tiles can save time and money, there are potential drawbacks. The new adhesive may not bond properly, and the process adds extra weight to the wall or floor. Additionally, the increased height of the surface could interfere with door clearances. For the best and most durable results, removing the old tiles before installing new ones is generally the better option.

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.

Porcelain is a relatively affordable, mid-range countertop material. It typically costs between $50 to $70 per square foot.

Compared to quartz, porcelain is slightly more affordable, as quartz generally ranges from $50 to $200 per square foot. However, lower-quality, builder's grade quartz can be similar in price to porcelain.

Compared to granite, the price can be similar, depending on the quality of the stone. While granite slabs can range from $50 to $200 per square foot, you can find lower-end granite in the same price range as porcelain. High-end granites will cost significantly more.

Porcelain is generally more expensive than laminate, acrylic, and ceramic, but less expensive than high-end slate, concrete, and marble. A key benefit is that porcelain does not require sealing, which reduces long-term maintenance costs.
