"TGR did a great job, sounds to be a cliche but they did the job, on time, with quality and on budget! We had our lounge re-modelled, including replacement patio and kitchen doors, floor tiling and sheet rock (ceilings). In a world of late show ups, escalated bids and shoddy workmanship, their employees, from initial quoting to getting the job done were exemplary. They encountered and addressed some problems we had (None of their doing) and we are left with another part of our home we are proud to live in. If the tiles are uneven or improperly fixed, they may crack under the pressure. Be careful when installing the tub—if it drops or drags on the tiles, it could easily cause scratches or cracks.

Grout and caulk are commonly used together, especially in bathrooms. Grout goes between the tiles and keeps them sturdy and in place on the walls or floor. Caulk goes in corners or where two different materials meet (like where the bathtub meets the tile) to create a waterproof seal. However, they are not interchangeable—you shouldn't use caulk to adhere tile and shouldn’t use mortar if you need a waterproof seal.

The cost to install porcelain tile is about $1,930 on average. Porcelain tile prices range from $880 to $3,000 or more. The average cost tends to be higher than ceramic tile because porcelain tile is very durable. Porcelain tile rating also factors into the material cost. Tile ratings are as follows:

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.

Generally speaking, it is better to cut tile wet when using a fast-moving wet saw to reduce dust and chipping. However, tile can be cut dry when using just about any cutting tool. Dry cutting will result in a bigger mess and may increase the risk of chipping or cracking, but if you’re just making small cuts, dry cutting is a safe and viable option. Cutting dry also means you can apply tile grout sooner, so it’s better for rushed projects.
