"Geraldo was a pleasure to work with. He installed a concrete pad to expand our driveway and a concrete pad for a storage shed. Both of these projects involved obtaining HOA approval as well as city permits. Geraldo managed the city permits for me in a very timely manner. The concrete work is over a year old now and is in perfect condition with no cracks or sinking. His communication style was very timely and professional. I would definitely recommend Texas Green Leaf Construction and use the company again."

Customers say: True professional

"Jordan and his team were very attentive to my requests. I had a vision and they fulfilled my dream and then some. I have a beautiful curvy walkway to my gorgeous covered patio and a circular firepit area with a sitting wall that I can stand up from, without too much strain. I also have a fantastic staircase with tedious specifications (4 inch risers) that were beautifully created."

"Forest and the crew were true professionals. The quality of their work is exceptional. Forest Blaney communicated with us daily-keeping us informed on progress, scheduling, etc. He has extensive experience and knowledge in the industry and provided many suggestions on the design and construction of the retaining walls making the end result better than we had imagined. His crew is skilled and professional. There was excellent communication between them, Forest and us on a regular basis. The project took several weeks to complete and was seamless. We 100% recommend Forest Blaney and his team for stonework and landscaping."

"Parker and team are really good at keeping a fairly timely schedule for mowing our yard. They are very reasonable and we like how nice they edge the yard. They really listened to us on how we wanted some bushes/trees trimmed and made it all look nice. Good people to work with!"

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Rebar is a steel support that goes inside concrete to prevent structural damage over time. Concrete is susceptible to impact, weight, and tension. By inserting rebar into the concrete during the installation, you can help extend its lifespan and avoid hazardous situations where the foundation of your home gives way to tensile forces.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.

Costs depend on material type, labor rates, and additional features like decorative finishes or reinforcement.
