"When our AC system needed to be replaced Jon gave us an estimate and began work as soon as possible. We were out of town and our adult son was there to allow Jon and his crew to complete the work. Jon kept us informed every step of the way. We also had the upstairs duct work replaced which need to be replaced. When we returned home the completed work was well done as we expected. A few days before we arrived home the downstairs AC stopped working which Jon had installed. First chance he got came over and resolved the problem. Now that's how a family works together. Much appreciated Jon for jobs well done. Enjoy your day."

"Be aware!!!! Luis and his team (Alâ s AC & Heating) replaced my leaking evaporator. All appeared to go well but they performed a critical error that is going to cost me thousands of dollars! Without my approval, they blew the primary condensate drain line (rather than suctioning it) which lead to further plugging of the bathroom sink drain line that is connected to it. They didnâ t even check to see if my sink was freely flowing and rushed to their next job. This resulted in water back up from the sink and flooding of my bathroom, carpet and hardwood damage as well as seepage into my foundation/hardwood. After trying to reach him, he claimed zero fault and dropped all communication! Please avoid Alâ s AC and heating when it comes to your AC needs and learn from my mistake!"

"It is so rare that we see someone with anything near to this level of expertise, dedication, and value for any home construction or service job. This guy is the real deal, honest and professional. He does what he loves, and he loves what he does, and in doing so provides REAL value for his specific niche. Explained everything and every charge beautifully down to the last detail. We had estimates that were much higher, but he was so principled about explaining what was necessary that we were able to actually save money. We had purchased an older house, and the attic ducts were crushed and a spaghetti mess, making the vents dusty, moldy, and impossible to clean. He redesigned and replaced the ducts for an incredibly reasonable cost, focusing only on what was needed. He did all the work himself and was very careful to keep the workspace clean and tidy. When your HVAC technician mentions recharging your home AC unit, they’re referring to the process of topping off the unit with refrigerant, so the levels are properly maintained and pressurized. Normally, a properly functioning AC unit doesn’t need additional refrigerant, but AC units can develop leaks or other problems that decrease the amount of refrigerant needed.

You should know the main components of an air conditioner: the condenser coils, evaporator coils, drip pan, AC filter, ducts, and refrigerant. Each part plays a key role in the performance and safety of your AC system. When tracking the source of AC issues or odors, it helps to know where to look. Your outdoor unit houses your condenser coils, fan, and compressor. Your indoor unit houses your evaporator coils, drain lines, and filter, and it connects to your ductwork. 

If both your furnace and AC unit are more than a decade old, it may be a good idea to replace both of them. However, your furnace can last up to three decades, and your air conditioner can typically last up to 15 years, so consulting with a pro before deciding to replace both of them is best. If it’s before that time limit for each, you can fix many problems with repairs or just replace one.

You need to know the square footage of your home first. Multiply that number by 20, which will get you the BTUs (British Thermal Units) needed to cool your home efficiently. Homes up to 1,000 square feet usually need a 1.5-ton unit; homes 1,000 to 1,200 square feet usually need a 1.75-ton unit, and homes 1,200 to 1,400 square feet usually need a 1.9-ton unit.
