Customers say: True professional

"it's a bit pricey, but if my trees are saved it'll be worth every penny. Dr. Bob was incredibly nice and he knows his stuff. After 45 years in the business I would hope he does. Another plus? He didn't treat my questions as if I were stupid. They drove from Dallas TX to my home in deep east TX a drive of over 4 hours and that was all in one day. I would definitely recommend B&W Insect control and tree service!"

"They came out and gave me a quote. They had to convince my husband that it was the right time to do the work. They came out and did the work for two very hot days. They worked very, very hard and did a GREAT job. The difference in the look of the lot is remarkable. The guys were extremely nice and polite. It was an overall very positive experience and I will be callling them yearly to maintain my trees."

"Highly recommend Jeremy and his crew. Hands down the best experience in every way. Rapid response after my inquiry was sent. Prompt scheduling. Arrived on time. Extremely professional, courteous and off the charts work ethic. No need for the concerns I had of my 75ft Sycamore tree location close to my home as well as my neighbors. The team worked together to maintain safety and precision at all times and could drop a limb right on the mark. It was phenomenal to watch. In addition they went above and beyond raking my lawn, removing a pile of former limbs and basically left my front lawn with sparkling curb appeal. This service was worth every dime. And such likeable people! Jeremyâ s brother was a former utility worker and well versed in using appropriate caution to address any overhead electrical line interference with the tree growth. This inspired me to have added confidence in the service provided. Iâ m so happy with choosing GreenTree Service and also admire the service they have provided in the past in and out of the state to assist in times of disasters such as hurricanes and ice storms. This is a top tier business. Will use again without hesitation. And I feel good about how much better the tree itself looks with the symmetry after trimming such huge limbs and how Iâ m sure it will prolong the health and growth of the tree to enjoy for decades to come."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

No, you cannot plant a tree above a gas line. Tree roots grow and spread over time and can sometimes dent, crack, or penetrate a gas line. Those same roots may also cause accessibility problems for maintenance or repairs. You can generally plant vegetation with non-invasive root systems, low-growing vegetation, and flower beds near gas lines.

No. Topping a tree refers to severely cutting down all its major branches and tree in a straight line. It was once recommended for streetside deciduous trees but has fallen out of practice. Topping leads to many problems, removing so much of the tree that many trees struggle to survive and become much more vulnerable to insects and diseases. Also, it doesn’t really help tree growth as once assumed and often leads to an ugly appearance of many sprouting stems in competition to become new main branches.

It’s not as common for Dutch elm disease to affect other types of trees, especially if the surrounding trees aren’t elms. However, it is possible for DED to spread to other trees, particularly in northern states, like Minnesota. In fact, it’s a good idea to use geography to identify wood and determine which types of trees are in your yard.

Unfortunately, the complex and shallow root system of elm trees makes surrounding elm trees particularly vulnerable to DED. Early discovery is key!

The ideal depth of a tree notch depends on the tree, but it should usually be between 20% and 25% of the tree’s depth. However, if the tree is leaning towards the direction of the notch, it can be cut more shallowly—at as little as 10% of the depth. When the tree is leaning away from the direction it needs to be felled, you can cut deeper, closer to 30%.

Your neighbor is not in a good position to know if your trees are truly dead or pose any kind of danger. That’s why hiring an arborist or tree service expert can be such an important part of the process. If the trees are still alive and don’t pose any threat, you’re in the clear (but you may want to document and photograph everything in case events turn sour down the road).

But if a tree is visibly dead and near the property line, you should remove it to be safe. If a dead tree falls on a neighbor’s property, they may have grounds to sue for negligence. If any branches on trees have died, it’s a good idea to cut them back for similar reasons.
