"Important positives: Good price in comparison to other painters Didn't pay any money until the job was finished Arrived on time Professional Good preparation (power washed, scraped, caulking, replaced bad wood, covered and taped areas) Good detail work (edges smooth and neat) No surprise charges Looking back: I asked for 3 coats of paint in my first visit. The brick area may have 3 coats it is thick and looks BETTER than expected. The gable on one side does not have 3 coats. Antonio told me his guy would add another coat of paint to the entire gable area, but I never saw that happen and the paint was thin in that area. I mentioned it again to the painter that came the last day to do touch up. He said he would paint the two shingles I pointed out. He did. I would have preferred another coat on all of it. I believe had I insisted, Antonio would have done it. My husband couldn't see the thinness of the paint, the two spots that bothered me were covered, and I just let it go. I wanted to test a stain color on a board not on the fence before putting it on my fence. Instead, 3 boards were stained that were right in the first place you look when you walk in the yard. I had him replace the three boards. I ran to the store and bought the new ones. It's important to note that he did the fence for FREE. I just had to buy the stain, they hand brushed it on and it was labor intensive. The fence looks BEAUTIFUL. I struggled choosing colors. If I had it to do over I would have made choices and done tests before their arrival, so I could consider the colors over time. The painters had to work around other workmen and people coming in and out. They were always polite and patient though. I don't know how I could have changed this, but it bothered me the painters had to deal with it.

"I had Casey come in and built a full fence for me after seeing the great landscaping work he did on my neighbor's lawn. Casey does really good work and took his time to make sure it came out just how I wanted. He made sure he used the proper products and spent extra time to make sure the method was proper and the fence was leveled. All around good guy and amazing service!"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The price of purchasing and installing a fence around a pool is dependent on the type of fence material you choose. On average, a pool fence can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000+. Chain link and mesh fences are the least expensive options, while a fully glass fence will cost the most. Having an inground or above-ground pool will also be a key factor in determining fence prices.

The best under-gate dog barrier is one that extends to the ground. This effectively keeps dogs in and won't give them room to squeeze through. However, dogs that dig can still get under the barrier. Deter digging by paving the ground beneath the gate or filling it in with rocks or gravel. Be careful using wire to extend dog gates, as the sharp ends may cut or hurt your dog's paws.

Vegetable gardens can easily become a convenient food bank for your local animal population, whether it’s squirrels stealing fruit or rabbits munching on freshly grown veggies. If you want to keep those critters out, it helps to put a fence around your vegetable garden that’s at least a couple of feet tall to deter any animals from getting past it. Just make sure your fence doesn’t interrupt the amount of sunlight your garden needs to thrive.

A silt fence should be buried in a trench that is 6 to 12 inches deep. A depth of at least 6 to 8 inches is necessary to prevent water and sediment from running underneath the fence. A deeper trench, up to 12 inches, provides better anchoring during wet and windy weather. To ensure proper installation, look for a red line on the silt fence fabric, which often indicates the correct burial depth. Always adhere to local guidelines and regulations; a professional contractor will be familiar with these requirements.

There are two things you can do to make a fence replacement easier—but keep in mind that easier doesn’t mean better. First, you can use a jack or some other type of machinery to pull the post out of the ground. If that’s not available, a digging bar can help.

Second, you can backfill the hole with gravel rather than creating a concrete footing. Keep in mind, gravel is less secure. You should only use it if you’re installing a lightweight fence or have heavier, clay soil.
