"Working with Model is a great experience. We had used them for smaller projects before; I had had them bid on something in the late '80s but in the last 10 yrs or so we have used them often and many of our friends have as well. I have heard no adverse reports and we had a great friend and ally in this complicated and stressful rebuilding year.
The management is very professional, experienced and super-responsive and responsible. Their workers are top notch in terms of quality and helpfulness.
When accidental mistakes were made (for example, the wrong decking material was ordered), Model corrected the problem immediately and the final result is a great house like we wanted and built well and soundly.
They have been in business for many years in the same location; you know where they are and can count on excellent work done responsively and with the highest quality. When it came time to select a contractor, we knew we wanted Model and we feel our choice was perfect.

"I am very pleased with the quality of material and the construction of my deck. We had a little differences as to the lay out of the deck but all worked out well. As it turned out my husband is well pleased with the changes. The crew working was excellent. You couldn't have asked for a better crew, they were experienced, hard working and very pleasant. I would highly recommend them."

"Started slowly, since our original estimate was given by a person who left the company soon after. After our estimate was found in his papers, we got the ball rolling. They were responsive to my request to have it done before school started again, and when the weather didn't allow them to come on the day they originally scheduled, they asked if thery could come on Sunday. I said yes, and they showed up, got right to work, and finished before the end of the day. They picked up their trash hauler the next morning (we live a lot closer to the dump than they do...) We love the roof and have had many compliments on it."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Common skylight issues include leaks, condensation between glass panes, damaged seals, and cracks in the glazing. Regular exposure to weather elements can lead to these problems, requiring timely attention to preserve the integrity of the skylight and the surrounding roof structure.

Fixed skylights are by far the most popular type. Because skylights can be pretty high up on your ceiling, fixed (rather than operable) skylights remove some maintenance from the equation. Plus, you don’t have to constantly worry if you shut your skylight fully the last time you opened it or if you’re going to find a leak later on during a rainy day.

Whether you need a permit to install a skylight depends on the scope of the project and local regulations. Generally, permits are required if the installation involves altering the structural components of your home, such as moving roof rafters. In some municipalities, a permit might also be necessary if the skylight protrudes above the highest point of your existing roof. However, if no structural changes are made, a permit may not be needed. The cost for a skylight installation permit is typically under $100. A convenient time to add a skylight is during a roof replacement, as your contractor can incorporate the new opening into the design.

Yes, solar tubes work during the winter as long as it’s light outside and they aren’t covered by snow. Sun tunnels are made to work year-round to bring in natural light, and some people find them even more beneficial during the winter. With less daylight outside, it can be even more important to bring brightness into homes to reduce electricity costs.

Yes, if you have ventilated skylights, you can install insect screens on them. Insect screens for skylights cost $10 to $50 each, depending on their size and quality. Most pros highly recommend insect screens for ventilated skylights because they keep pests outside of your home while allowing fresh air inside.
