"Called Dixie on a Saturday morning and she came the same day to look at the fridge. She said the repair would be simple. She charged me for the part and the service call and promised to come by the following week to complete the work. Long story short, she gave me the run around for 6 weeks before I gave up and had to buy a new fridge. She never refunded my $170. Please never do business with this person! It took me so long to write this review because I didn’t want to drag someone’s name through the mud, but after reading a recent review and seeing that she is still treating people this way I had to finally review her."

Some of the most common microwave repair problems include magnetron failure and a plate that won’t spin. When a magnetron fails, the microwave won’t efficiently heat your food—a frustrating albeit common experience. Meanwhile, a plate that doesn’t spin won’t thoroughly heat food, even if the magnetron works.

Whether or not it’s safe to use a buzzing microwave depends on what’s causing the noise. If the microwave is buzzing when not in use, shut the power and call an emergency electrician, as this could lead to a fire.

A microwave can last anywhere from five to 10 years. To get the most out of this appliance, you should follow a few maintenance tips:

  • Immediately clean up spills and food bits. To help with stuck-on food, heat a bowl of water with ¼ cup of lemon juice for one minute.

  • For over-the-range microwaves, clean the grease filter that’s underneath it. This will ensure the microwave runs efficiently.

  • Never put anything metal in the microwave, as it can create a fire hazard. Also, avoid dishes with metal trim for the same reason. 

  • Avoid slamming the door. With years of use, the door switches could easily break.
