A-1 Concrete Leveling and Foundation Repair is locally family owned and operated. We raise concrete slabs, steps, sidewalks and floors that have settled over time. The process involves drilling small (1 Inch) holes through the slab an pumping an environmentally safe pulverized limestone mix under the concrete to slowly lift it back into place. A-1 also raises/stabilizes foundation that have settled over time. This settling is generally identified by stair step cracks in exterior brick walls, and buckling and sagging in wood siding walls. This process is accomplished by installing steel brackets to the foundation and hydraulically driving steel piers into the ground and lifting the foundation back into place when possible.

Pool doctor has served the area for 30 years and does most types of pool work.

"I definitely would NOT recommend Pool Doctor to anyone, especially those needing larger services like a new pool liner + installation. Last April, my parents paid 75% of the cost for a new pool liner. This is not a small job, and the cost was a few thousand dollars. When the time finally came for the measurements to be taken for the new liner (MONTHS later and nearly all summer with an unusable pool), they measured the pool and left out the steps. The new liner came in before the mistake was realized. They had to re-order a liner and wait a couple more weeks for it to come in. Okay, mistakes happen. They came back out September 5 to install the new "correct" liner. Turned out it had been measured incorrectly AGAIN and the liner is very wrinkly. The owner acknowledged the mistake and said he was going to install the incorrect liner anyway so my parents could get at least a week or two out of the pool before having to shut it down for the season. He said, "I'll make it good in the spring." In October my parents received an invoice for the remaining 25% of the balance due for the pool liner. 25% off of this 25% had been applied as a discount for the messed up liner. My parents, of course, have not paid this remaining 25%. Would you pay anything more for a job you fronted thousands for that was done completely incorrectly? Probably not. It is nearly summer now and my parents have not heard a word from the Pool Doctor. I suppose he has decided not to make it right in the spring after all. I would highly suggest finding someone else to service your pool."

Pool and Spa Servicing questions, answered by experts

Follow these general safety tips for spas and hot tubs:

  • Keep your exterior electrical receptacles covered and dry, especially around your hot tub and pool during periods of use.

  • Make sure you have a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) properly installed to ensure no one gets accidentally shocked or injured by electrocution.

  • Don’t use the hot tub or your pool during a thunderstorm.

  • Before using the hot tub, have a certified electrician thoroughly inspect your hot tub and its wiring to make sure you’re in full compliance with all applicable local building codes.

No, you cannot clean your hot tub filters in the dishwasher. While it may seem like a good idea, the dishwasher soap isn’t gentle enough for hot tub filters and can damage them. Gentle cleaning is better when cleaning the hot tub filters and keeping them intact.

For a fully-foamed hot tub, freezing typically occurs when the temperature drops below 28 degrees Fahrenheit and remains at or below this level continuously for a minimum of 36 hours. If your hot tub and pumps are still operational, however, the water circulates, and this continuous movement helps prevent freezing, even in very cold conditions. This circulation, along with the insulation provided by the foam, helps maintain the water temperature and prevent it from freezing during extended cold periods. Still, if you’re not planning to run it regularly, be sure to winterize the hot tub properly to prevent damage from freezing.

It’s easy to keep your hot tub clean and safe for all to enjoy by following a few simple tips:

  • Make sure anyone who uses the hot tub rinses themselves and their swimsuits off, perhaps in an outdoor shower near the hot tub.

  • Don’t add anything to your hot tub’s water. Bath oils and bubble bath liquids might seem like a fun addition to your hot tub experience, but these substances will turn the water in your tub foamy and its surfaces hard to clean.

  • Restrict eating in the tub to light snacks that you can easily clean out if there’s any spillage. Crumbs from crackers and chips can be difficult to pick up.

  • Make it a no-pet zone. Pet fur and dander can pose a cleaning issue, but it’s also not a great idea for your pet’s health and safety.

Many people find saltwater tubs worth the upfront expense. They cost less to maintain than traditional hot tubs, so you can save in the long term. Maintenance is also easier, typically involving balancing the pH and cleaning the tub rather than adding chemicals. They’re also gentler on sensitive skin, and you won’t walk away with a strong chlorine odor.
