The next morning I received a call from him and said the job scheduled for that day from another site was postponed due to delay in shipping and asked if I would like him to do my small job that day. The American ideal of a large, perfectly-manicured lawn is tied to the post-World War II suburban housing boom. Once your sod is about six weeks old, you can start to establish a regular lawn maintenance routine, complete with mowing, edging, and fertilizing.  

Depending on the method you choose to remove grass, it may or may not matter whether the grass is wet or dry when you perform the task. A dryer lawn will be easier to negotiate with a sod cutter, especially if you're not planning to reuse the turf. However, using a shovel by hand might be a little easier if the ground is slightly damp but not so much that it sticks to the tool.  

Any amount of wetness is too much to mow grass, including morning dew. When you mow wet grass, you’re more likely to damage your grass blades and your mower. Fungal diseases are more likely to grow and spread, and you could tear your blades instead of cutting them crisply, leading to brown tips. It’s best to wait until your grass is dry to mow and keep up with lawn mower maintenance.
