Small jobs welcome

"What started as a few small projects turned into a complete remodel, and Connor was a huge part of making it a success. He replaced wood decking, reinforced/replaced broken jetted tub with a new soaking tub, installed a new spiral staircase, painted the interior and trim, repaired frozen pipes (cold winter), rebuilt a leaking/running toilet tank, replaced a wooden fence with a white vinyl privacy fence, installed white vinyl deck railings, replaced soffits and gutters, installed ceiling fans, converted a lock to keyless entry, hung curtain rods, installed an accordion door, and mounted four TVs. Connor was on time every time, communicated well, brought his own tools, worked efficiently, and delivered quality workmanship at a fair price. He was also meticulous about cleanup, removing debris and leaving the home looking spotless after each job. Reliable, professional, hardworking, and skilled across a wide variety of trades. We would absolutely hire him again and highly recommend him."

"The house looks so good! I hired Keefer and his team to paint the interior of my house (1100sqft) and the results are amazing! I have an older home that needed some love and KTB came in and took care of everything. The team was friendly, polite, and professional. KTB was quick to get me on the schedule, worked efficiently, and left a clean worksite! I highly recommend KTB for your project and I will be calling them again for mine."

"Gary was exceptional! I really appreciate that he did all he said he would do and more! Inevitably there are unexpected things that come to light during renovation of an older home! Gary communicated his thoughts and made sure he had our permission before moving forward with changes. I am very glad we found this company!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

Installing an ornamental or decorative porch column takes around three to five hours. Structural columns take longer because your pro has to install a jack to hold up the roof while switching the column out. If there's any structural damage, it can add several days to the timeline to repair the damage.

For a professional carpenter, installing a window seat can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on some aspects of the project. Aside from building the seat itself, if they have to remove any cabinets, shelves, or baseboards, that will add time to the project.

Framing is the shell of the house. It includes several steps, including studs, plumbing, and electricity. A professional will ensure the wall frame is secured for the house’s structural integrity.

Framing prices change depending on the material and whether the wall is load-bearing. Most contractors use wood to frame a home, but metal is another popular choice.

You can choose 5/8-inch plywood or 3/4-inch plywood—anything thinner than these sizes may not withstand the impact of debris propelled by strong winds or can be easily torn off by intruders. Remember that the durability of the wood board is crucial, particularly for safeguarding your windows during severe storms. The effectiveness of using wood boards for protecting the investment you made in your home relies on using the appropriate material and ensuring proper installation.
