In the mean time, they directed me to have plumbing rough and done, and then when they couldn't deliver the system for which the plumbing was done, I now have to spend several thousand dollars having the plumbing redone for another system that I found out on my own. There are three main types of shower valves: pressure-balancing, thermostatic, and diverter. Pressure-balancing and thermostatic valves are both considered mixing valves because they regulate water flow and temperature, but they do so in different ways. A pressure-balancing valve senses changes in water pressure, such as from a flushing toilet, and adjusts the incoming hot and cold water to maintain a consistent temperature; these typically use a single knob. Replacing cast iron pipes when they’ve reached the end of their life span is key to preventing leaks and clogs. Over time, cast iron pipes corrode and experience pipe scale, which thickens the inside of the walls and increases the chance of clogs while also decreasing water flow. As the material deteriorates, you could experience costly leaks that increase reparation expenses.
Cast iron can last between 50 and 75 years, but it’s still a good idea to check for leaks as your pipes approach the 25-year mark, as pipes can already show signs of deterioration within the first three decades.
Dripping misters are a sign that the nozzles or holes in the tubing have some problems. Try flushing your system thoroughly. If that doesn’t help, examine each nozzle closely and clean them thoroughly with a brush, making sure the exit points are as smooth as possible. If this still doesn’t work, you may need to take off the nozzles entirely and soak them in water with a cleaning solution for a while. This is an important step if dust, mildew, or other gunk builds up in the nozzles.
