"Mr. Green TRULY puts the customer first! He installed a whole house generator for me last August and called to check on us 6 months later because bad weather is coming. Brought me a key and showed me (again) how to add oil. I had several estimates and he beat other prices by several thousand $ AND he installed a bigger generator! I will definitely hire him again and recommend him to every one!! 5 star service *****!!"

"Jeremy answered my call for a new home generator install after the recent prolonged blackout. He reviewed the site and within a half hour provided a quote. They were swamped with new installs, but he promised the job in 2 months. He and a large crew finished when promised in half a day, then he patiently explained the operation. An excellent, high-quality job. I was thankful and very impressed. He?s now my first call for all electrical work."

"5 stars! Mark Chapman with US Energy Solutions just installed a manual transfer switch box for my portable generator. The work was done professionally, on time, and very reasonably priced. Mark tested the install before he finished and it was perfect the first time. He was knowledgeable and experienced. My next electrical project will start with a call to Mark!"

"Quite honestly, this was not the lowest cost proposal I received for this project. If it wasn't for Ron I would have awarded the work to someone else. But Ron convinced me that there was a price for quality, and that I could trust them to deliver. I made the RIGHT decision. The installation is beautiful. Better than the original roof. When they arrived, they worked non-stop. When the project was complete, they cleaned up better than it was when they arrived. There was never a question on what was included in the price, and the workmanship is exquisite. big 5 stars."

"We had Russell Smith from Corley out to check out a T&P valve water heater leak that another plumber had diagnosed but never fixed. Russell quoted us a price to replace the valve(s) but also mentioned that our water heaters were 12.5 years old and may need to be replaced fairly soon. We decided to go ahead and replace both water heaters at a total cost of $4174 with a 12-year parts and labor warranty from Corley and a $19.68 monthly charge for their Service Partner Plan. The retail value of the water heaters, as I realized later, is about $600 each and the wholesale value is about $500 each. So, the installation cost and maintenance fees were around $3,000. Russell returned to replace both water heaters. After he left, we noticed that we still had a leak of about 2 - 2.5 oz/minute and the Corley dispatcher agreed to have Russell return to see if he could locate the leak. When he returned he noted that our water pressure was around 84 psi but he was somewhat reluctant to address the high water pressure issue, citing changes might result in additional leaks. Russell was unable to find any leak in the system. The next day, my wife and I woke up to find that we had no hot water. I checked and one of the two hot water circuit breakers was tripped so I contacted Corley to have them come out to check it out. Russell returned to find a leak in the hot water supply line just above our recirculation valve. He replaced the rubber washer and then proceeded to check out the two water tanks. Russell then discovered that the tank below the recirculation value seemed to be fine but the wiring for the other tank appeared to be completely fried and the tank needed to be replaced. Russell disconnected that tank but, afterwards, the first tank still tripped the circuit breaker. Russell fixed that issue and disconnected the power to the second water heater. My wife and I were then able to use the single tank until a replacement could be made. Russell arranged to have someone from Corley check out the electrical system and replace the defective water heater on Tuesday. Sean came out on Tuesday and replaced the defective water heater and also addressed the high pressure issue. Our leak and high water pressure issues were resolved! Thank you Sean. We will stay with Corley for now but the fact that we had to have four visits from them to replace our water heaters seemed a bit much. My time is valuable and it just adds to the high cost of their visits."

"Had original part of our 1965 built house rewired and grounded and a new bath fan installed and vented. Jerry and Joey were personable, , knowledgeable, hardworking, and kept us informed on what they were doing. We regained the use of several electrical outlets and a non-working light switch and peace of mind in having electrical safe and grounded.. They had to navigate a very low crawl space to do some of the work. All for such a reasonable price that I wish we had done this years ago! Thank you HomeAdvisor for helping us find Peco!"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

Yes, natural gas generators can work without electricity. Natural gas generators are a common type of backup or whole-house generator that operates when the electrical grid isn’t working. The trick is using a transfer switch (which usually needs to be installed with the generator) that safely switches the home electrical system from the power grid to generator power when needed.

While the rating will tell you how many watts the refrigerator needs at the peak of its cycle, it requires additional wattage to start. At the bare minimum, you’ll need a 1,500-watt generator to get the fridge up and running after a blackout. A 2,000-watt generator should be sufficient for most home refrigerators.

Many services include assembling the unit and securing it in the window. Confirm with your provider.

It is safe to run a generator continuously, but you must follow safety protocols to ensure personal and home safety. Read the manufacturer’s instructions for specific recommendations, but the general recommendation is to turn generators off overnight or when you’re away from the house. Overworked generators can pose a fire hazard and if your generator is not in a well-ventilated area, running it continuously could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
