"They came out on the day scheduled. They did a good job cleaning given the time allowed and the size of my home. I didn't ask for the entire house to be cleaned, but a number of rooms I felt reasonable. They did clean pretty well, except i did find dust and cob-webs in the corner of one room after they had cleaned. They also broke one of the slats in one of my wooden window blinds and said nothing to me about it. I also felt is was strange that they left a soda bottle on a shelf in one room and a insulated drink bottle in the kitchen. I would probably still use them because they did do a reasonably good job, but i do feel they could have done a bit better.

Carpet Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Whether you tip before or after a carpet cleaning depends on when you’re available. If you’re home when they finish up, you can give them their tip after. However, if you need to leave before they’re done or if you won’t be home at all, you can prepare the tip beforehand and leave it for them in an envelope.

Most carpet cleaning solutions are safe to use in the home. However, to avoid irritation and health issues you can look for a neutral, mild detergent, especially one that’s marked as nontoxic or eco friendly. When in doubt, always check out the ingredient list. Some cleaning options only use steam heat to clean with little or no detergent, which could be an option if you’re worried.

If the chemical compounds that make up pet pee haven’t been properly neutralized, the smell of urine can be reactivated with water and linger even after cleaning. You may also notice a remaining pee smell in carpets if the urine has soaked down to the carpet padding, which is more difficult to access and clean than the carpet itself.

Vinegar is acidic and makes a great cleaning agent for many items throughout the house, including some upholstery. It should not be used for any upholstery with the code S or X. It can be used for W labels. To use a vinegar solution, mix equal parts water and vinegar and blot the stain using a gentle circular motion with a clean microfibre cloth and then allow to dry completely. As with any DIY solution, test a small and inconspicuous section first.

Even cats that are well-trained at using the litter box can end up urinating on various household objects or floors at some point. Cats may pee outside of the litter box for many different reasons, from their surroundings to their health.

If any of these issues sound familiar, addressing them can help you prevent any future accidents. When in doubt, talk to your vet, especially if peeing outside the litter box is coupled with any other abnormal behavior.

  • Stress: A soiled litter box or untidy surroundings, strange guests stopping by, or loud noises may stress out a kitty, leading them to pee outside of their box.

  • Health: Cats with health issues like UTIs, bladder stones, diabetes, or kidney disease may pee around the house.

  • Marking: Cats may mark around the house to either claim their territory when other animals come around or to attract a mate.

  • Preferences: Your cat may simply prefer a larger litter box, or maybe they don’t like the new litter you bought on sale at the store.
