"He and his team were personable polite and he was clearly very skilled Fixed all the problems with a 80+ double chimney that had been deferred maintenance when we bought the house. So pleased with his work that we had him go do some repairs on my mother’s brick porch. He is also a good communicator and gives great customer service. Would definitely recommend and use again"

"I was able to get an appointment for just a few days after I called. Hunter was on time, friendly and polite. In addition to cleaning our chimney he did some spot repairs on our roof. I will definitely be calling him again next time our chimney needs cleaning."

"They did a great job. They solved all the problems I had with the chimney and it’s been working perfectly ever since. They also fixed a problem on the roof around the chimney; they replaced the wood around the chimney with a material that would never rot, so they fixed it even better than it was before. It took them a couple of days to do the work. They took care of all the cleanup as well. We've been real happy with them."

"Coles Chimney did a fabulous job. My steps look like new. They were prompt and always explained the various steps in the process. By the time they finished the job, they already had multiple jobs in the neighborhood from people walking by who saw the quality of the work."

"An absolute pleasure to work with. Was always early or on time. Will be doing future work other than roof repairs. Hard to find a contractor that will do what they say when they say it will be done."

Chimney Repair questions, answered by experts

Like stains, the best way to prevent cracks is by treating them as quickly as possible. You can apply a protection cream or conditioner, which will fill in and plump any gaps or wrinkles that may start to form.

Use appropriate thickness materials—3/4-inch sides for heavy loads, proper joinery techniques, and quality hardware rated for your intended weight. Avoid overloading drawers beyond their design capacity, and periodically check and tighten any loose fasteners.

Wood putty is made with a plastic adhesive, while wood filler is made from sawdust or wood products. The primary difference is their application: wood filler is used to repair the interior portions of wood, whereas wood putty is best for exterior sections because it contains chemicals that could damage the inside of the wood. If a crack or hole goes into the middle of the lumber, wood filler is the correct product for the job.

It is generally worth repairing leather furniture rather than replacing it, as it is typically more affordable and the material tends to retain its value. A typical repair averages around $250, which is significantly less than the thousands of dollars a replacement could cost. Even a full reupholstering, which can cost up to $4,000, may still be more economical than buying new. With proper care, repaired leather furniture can last for many years, making the investment worthwhile. However, if the underlying structure or frame of the furniture is damaged or malfunctioning, replacement might be a better option. The quality of the leather and the furniture piece are also important factors. For a definitive answer, it is best to consult a leather repair professional to assess your specific situation.

To prepare furniture for moving, detach furniture legs if possible. If the legs must stay on, wrap them with foam wrap or taped blankets to help prevent damage. You can also buy dedicated moving “socks” for furniture legs.
