"Chose Brothers via Angi to determine our heat pump problem. Their assessment led us (given it's age) to decide to replace the system. I obtained multiple quotes and Brothers was priced the best. "I guess the price alright. It's about what we paid in Charlotte with another company, maybe just a tiny bit less. But I guess it's the what the prevailing rate is. The simplest indicator is how long it’s been since your last tune-up. You should schedule an annual AC tune-up each spring. Beyond that, there are multiple signs that your AC needs a quick check by a professional. These issues include higher-than-average energy bills, decreased air flow from vents, higher indoor temperatures, and an air conditioning unit that stays on all the time or frequently turns on and off.

One of the fastest ways to unfreeze an AC unit is to turn off the unit and, if it’s warm outside, use the fan-only mode to help blow warmer air through the unit to speed up the defrosting process. While it may be tempting to use a hair dryer to defrost the air conditioner, that high heat can damage the coils.

After defrosting, if you can safely solve the issue with a fix like changing the filter, go ahead and do so. Otherwise, call in a pro before turning your AC back on.
