"They built a nice fence after a troublesome start (photos are on his website). They required a large deposit, saying it was to cover materials. A few days later there were a few boards and posts left here - certainly not $850 worth - and then they kept putting me off as to when they could work. Joseph is very pleasant and wants you to know they are very knowledgeable about their work. He checked into property lines and how far they needed to install the fence from the street. They initially set a few posts at a strange angle and I felt something wasn't right. I then made many calls and finally learned the fence must be installed much further inward from my property line than he had thought, so he had to take up the posts that he had cemented into the ground and start over. He charged far more than the going rate for this type of fence - I had gotten 2 other estimates and only decided to hire JME because it would be too long before they could do the work and I needed it done. Joseph was going to do it the next week. As it was, that did not happen. He told me he would not charge as much the next time - if I have him do a fence on the other side of my property. I also had him replace some screen panels in my porch while he waited for materials - they did a good job on that. I asked if he knew an electrician because I needed outdoor floodlights replaced and he said JME does all types of outdoor work. I could not find any record of his being licensed, but he said an electrical license is not required for that type of work and they are licensed to do anything outdoors. I told him I had replacements but we may have to exchange them because I was not sure they would work properly where I needed them. He checked and assured me they would work. I was concerned when I saw him and his workman frantically searching on their phones as they installed the one at the back door. I asked should we not turn the power off - Joseph said no need for that. I asked if there was a problem - they said no. I do not think is is installed correctly but it works, just can't be adjusted to cover the area I want covered. The one on the carport also works but it cannot be adjusted to a proper angle due to a downspout in the way. The old one worked very well but this one does not seem to be an appropriate style for that spot. They left the old floodlight system, wires and all, in the carport. I called an asked him to pick it up as it is their responsibility to dispose of it. He said he would come by but never did. That was Dec. or Jan. I messaged him again recently but no response. I felt the entire experience was too costly in time and money."

Fountains questions, answered by experts

To maintain your pond, you’ll need to occasionally clean your backyard pond, especially if you have koi fish. Test the water twice a week to make sure your fish have everything they need and always remove visible debris.

While they’re popular and have a lot of pros, the cons of river rocks include the following:

  • River rocks don’t break down or provide nutrients to plants.

  • These stones can get hot and scorch nearby plants.

  • River stones may heat the surrounding soil to inhospitable temperatures.

  • Rocks can block rainwater from seeping into the ground if installations are too thick or tightly packed.

Most downsides occur when using river rock as mulch in gardens and flower beds. However, you can still incorporate river rocks into your landscape as long as you use them in the correct ways.

Deep clean your koi pond at least once a year to keep your fish healthy and your pond in good shape. Water testing, debris removal, and partial water changes should be performed weekly. Seasonal professional service will ensure everything is clean and functioning properly.

Small ponds can be drained and filled in about a day. Larger ponds will take two or three days for professional removal.

When deciding whether or not to turn off your pump, you should consider your area’s climate and the aquatic life in your pond. If you live in an area with freezing winter temperatures and don’t have any wildlife, keeping your pump on could damage it. If you have aquatic life but live in a colder climate, you might consider keeping your pump running and adding a pond heater.
