"Great people, honest and fair. I have confidence that the system they installed is the best. Radon NC used top quality materials and their guarantee is comprehensive. I almost went with a "national" company but I compared their estimate to Radon NC and there's no comparison. Affordable Environmental Services guarantee their work and use the best materials, not the cheapest. I recommend this company!"

"During our 2017 annual dehumidifier service appointment, The Mold Hunter, Inc. found the equipment not to be working properly. I then began the process of pursuing a warrantied repair by shipping our Horizon dehumidifier back to the manufacturer, Air Cleaning Equipment, Inc, of Sanford, NC. After 7 1/2 months of not only supporting my efforts, but intervening directly on my behalf, Mike Smith did what Air Cleaning Equipment, Inc. would not do - he stood behind his work and the equipment he installed, and replaced the unit with a product from another manufacturer. Mike Smith is a business owner and individual of exceptional character. I highly recommend his company, The Mold Hunter, Inc. to anyone needing water restoration or mold remediation."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Radon is present almost everywhere but, like sunlight, the concentration levels and how often you are exposed to it have a large part to play in just how dangerous it is. There are levels of radon that are acceptable inside a house, but above a certain limit, radon becomes a serious radioactive hazard that is a known cause of lung cancer. In fact, radon exposure is the number two leading cause of lung cancer (after smoking).

Long-term exposure increases lung cancer risks. Prolonged homestay individuals and smokers encounter heightened vulnerability and exposure concerns.

The soil beneath your house is most likely what’s causing an increased level of radon. This is because soil holds radioactivity for a long time and it’s also what most buildings are built on. Another common source of radon is water from a source that hasn’t been through periodic radon tests, such as well water. Over time, the radon from the soil can inhabit other parts of your house like the foundation or plumbing.

Your radon fan needs to operate 24/7 to be effective. The only time the fan isn't operating is during its replacement. Radon levels in the home can increase within hours if the fan stops working or something obstructs the stack vent. Fortunately, radon systems require no downtime maintenance between fan changes.

If your home has a sump pit, you can integrate it with a radon mitigation system. You can accomplish this by sealing the pump cover with an airtight lid that accommodates radon vent pipes and sump pump hoses. This allows the vent pipe to redirect the radon gas outside of your home.
